Any updates on the XL
I might be in the market for another Prusa soon. Has there been any word on the XL?

Wait list?
Is there any kind of wait list or pre-payment established for the XL? I know I will likely buy one but fear missing the initial announcement and order placement process. I would gladly put some money "down" now in order avoid a long delay when it finally goes into production.

Announcement
That will happen after the official anouncement. It has not happened before to this date.

Wait List
They should have some pre-order procedure set up for long established customers that gives them a little bit of an edge. I don't mind paying SOMETHING ahead, even if a price has not yet been established, which is likely the case for the XL.

No wait-list
Entitled much? Why would they? Absolutely no benefit to their company and it would increase transaction costs and logistics for them. There's a lead time for all their products and the wait list will be a mile long as soon as they open orders. They don't need to waste any time with fielding pre-pre-orders: just keep working on the design and launch it when it's ready.
Disagree
The "benefit" to the company is that they would have a pile of cash to work with and an indicator of markeing and sales. Apart from setting up a registration "form", it would run with essentially no maintenance input required from staff until the Big Announcement.

Pre-orders would be a mixed blessing
Actually that pile of cash can be a problem in some ways. So let's imagine due to the delta variant the supply lines become even more screwed up (if that's possible short of a dinosaur level asteroid strike) and they can't ship it, now they have a ton of money that they have to hand back... But yes, having some idea of the demand (likely super high, although that partly depends on price) can help plan production schedules in a perfect world...

Wrong
They already have piles of cash.
Pre-orders of real goods always increase logistical complexity: people move, transaction processing costs money, refunds cost money, entitled boomers like yourself contacting support asking for updates...
Let's just wait patiently until they are ready.
Really?

Comes the asteroid I don't think I will care. Anyway, the "policy" could be "no refunds". They already have an account for me (currently with a $0 balance). Why not allow it to go negative with a "flag" to-be-applied-to [product specified, when available]. This isn't rocket science.

Can't say for sure, but I suspect they're incorporated some lessons learned into the new release process
I don't have any insight into the Mind of Prusa, but based on the history of the Mk3, the textured bed, and the Mini, I suspect they want to have their pipeline well established before releasing anything. There was a lot of backlash with each of those products when initial demand far outweighed production ability, and they experienced a lot of backlogs getting things shipped. The worst case would probably be having hundreds of printers prepaid, warehoused, but getting stuck waiting for a last part to ship.
As much as I love Prusa, I'm not ready to plunk down money without seeing something first. The XL will be a new enough beast that the initial release is likely to have some issues. I'm happy to wait until the initial rush dies down.

Isn't that the truth! Every printer has had an issue at launch.

Preorders
Preorders are sort of what Prusa does. They announce a new product and your order and wait for it to be shipped.

Anyway, I'm pretty confident that Josef, being at the Prague Maker faire this very week-end, will take the opportunity to make some announcements about the future... Prusa XL, perhaps the Mk4? We can dream: we are already friday 😀

XL
I hope you are right. They have been radio silent for a while. It would be awesome if they have a printer on display.

Please let us know if you hear any new announcements about the XL...
I am following this thread. If there are any announcements about the XL (especially during this weekend's conference), please let everyone on this thread know about it. Like you all, I am very excited for the XL.
Thanks!
No annoucement at the Prague Maker faire?
Apparently, no annoucement I heard of. It seems I totally lost my bet! 🤣
