Nozzle clogged after 2nd print

During only the 2nd print on this printer I noticed some clicking during the print. It seemed to come and go but after a while I noticed there was no filament coming out of the nozzle. Opening the gear lever I saw the filament was broken from the force of trying to press more into the nozzle tube. I removed the nozzle and tried everything to get it unblocked, heat got a little out but it is solidly blocked about halfway along the brass tube.

I don't think this nozzle design is the best quite honestly. It seems like a good idea at first but if a clog does happen, you can only access from 1 side unless you have a long needle, the one Prusa provides only goes halfway up. To me the nozzle adapter is a much better idea where the tube screws in one side of the heater block and a standard nozzle on the other side. At least a blocked tube can be worked from both sides and the nozzle itself is short. I am waiting for long needles to try to unblock this thing but hopefully Prusa will correct this,

I think you are going around to this the wrong way. Just open the gear mechanism, heat the nozzle and push it through by hand with a thin hex or something like that. Don't push it through the other end while hot, because all you will do is create something similar to a heat creep.

The Needle is just for getting the debris or whatever caused the clog, to get out of the nozzel tip.

I don't have an XL but i haven't used a needle on any printer in a long time. Hardly anything a cold pull (or two) couldn't handle. In some cases when a particle is blocking the nozzle, it is acutally the only way to get rid of the problem, other than throwing a perfectly good nozzle away of course.

True but there is one scenario in which this doesn't work with the Nextruder nozzles for the XL. If you Filament breaks right under the top of the nozzle you will not be able to get it out, unless you can push it through - to achieve that you sometimes need the needle. You see you cant get the cold side off the nozzle. With a V6 style nozzle this is completely different of course.

I have been using the Nozzle adapter with a standard V6 nozzle. Seems like this is a better solution.

Does anyone have input as to why the Prusa  one piece nozzle is better than the 2 piece?

RE:

The one piece solution prevents the risk of leakage of liquid plastic through a gap and fastening is less critical therefore. If that is not an issue for you personally there is honestly little reason to stick to the one piece solution I think. If you see value in that however, the one piece solution does offer a benefit to you.

I think it is great that Prusa offers customers the choice and doesn't lock them into some E3D or Prusa only nozzle ecosystem.

Do mean that the broken off filament is in the cold part of the single piece nozzel/heatbreak? Then you are indeed out of luck if the nozzle is clogged as well. If however the breakage is in the sufficiently hot part you can fuse the piece together with fresh filament and pull it out via cold pull. I would probably go for the two part assembly also with the Nextruder. More options and the "out of luck" scenario can't happen.

I finally got most of it out but had to use a heat gun outside of the printer as the force required to push the stuck piece down was quite severe.
