No power at all

Hmm, after getting my XL assembled, I turned the power on to discover that nothing happened!

The light on the power switch turned on (fuse is OK), but there's no power to the board (should be 24V DC) and no power to the extra AC outlet (120 VAC in the US).

I suspect a wire fell off the power entry module (where you plug the power in), but it's pretty un-obvious where to start dis-assembling things to look.

Any suggestions? I've been in touch with Prusa chat, but haven't received any detailed info.

More info -- I removed the small cover from the power switches on each of the supply.

With the main power switch on (and lit), neither of the power supply lights turn on.

Working to dis-assemble more, but the PDU assembly is like one of those tavern puzzles you can't take apart.

Huzzah, figured it out. After taking off about half the screws in the back panel I figured out that removing the four M4 screws near the bottom from the inside releases the PDU. Pull it down to release/remove.

Take off a bunch of screws on the PDU assembly to remove the bottom cover plate to see the inside.

The problem is obvious and perfectly consistent with the evidence -- the wire just fell off the power entry module.

The other was about to fall out. I re-installed them and re-assembled.

Were the connectors loose?
If so, you might want to replace them or at the very least tighten them up a bit to create a good contact.
If the connectors are too loose, you get a high resistance which leads to heat and can cause fires.
If in doubt, contact support

The connections to the power entry module were loose in the sense that they were not fully pushed in (and fallen off). The crimps themselves are fine.

I just had to push them onto the tabs fully (and check the rest)

It's a little laproscopic to re-install the power distribution assembly -- you have to push it up to connect to the power supplies, then reach through the print area to get the mounting screws re-installed. Get a flashlight if you need to go this far.

RE: No power at all

Just to join the conversation.  I finished the assembly of the 5 extruder XL last night, turned it on and had no power.  The red light at the switch is on and there is a very slight and short flash of the LEDs in the enclosure.  It is so slight that if you are not looking right at it when you turn the switch on you wouldn't notice it.

I have not had time to check it out yet, but will be on it tonight.  Hopefully it is just as simple.

If you see a flash of LEDs anywhere it's not the same problem as I had.

The manual doesn't describe the power distribution in detail.

The power distribution assembly takes line voltage in through a "Power Entry Module" -- switch and fuses. If the light is on, those fuses are OK.

Next it goes to a line filter inside the assembly, then to the output (socket) IEC connections. Two of them go to the power supplies, one is for some future expansion.

Each of the power supplies has a switch and fuses. They have little covers on the right (when viewed from the back). If you remove the screw, you can see the switch and fuse holder for each supply. If the light is on, the supply and fuse are fine.

The output of the supplies goes two places. The left supply (when viewed from the back) powers the board in the back. The right supply goes through the drag chain to the heatbed. If you remove some covers you can check the voltage and connection in each of these places.

Good luck!

You are correct.  It was not the same issue.  This one was my bad.  I had the harness to the LCD reversed.  All good now and ready to go!

Thanks

When you say "If the light is on, the supply and fuse are fine." which light are you referring too? are the lights in the power buttons ( qty3) supposed to light up? I test all the fuses for continuity and only the main button lights up, the other two with the removable covers do not light up.

I had been using my printer with no problems for months. I turned it off and hadnt used it for maybe 2 weeks, went to turn it on today and nothing happened, only the main power button light would come on. inspected the PDU for connectivity and it appears fine, all connections intact, nothing loose per your experience.
