Questions about the set-up/installation process
Although I am familiar with the software end of things, I am not familiar with the pins, and soldering them. On the instructions PDF, there is a step that says "Take the dual male header and cut it to 7x2 pin size." As I am not familiar with these pins, am I actually to cut something in half? Or people refer removing the pins from its slot as "cutting"?(I have attached the screenshot from the instructions page below)
Also, anybody purchased these pins from the U.S. and have recommendations on which shops to get these from?
male pin header cutting
Male pin headers are sold in strips like 2x20 pins. Since you need only a 2x7 strip, you need to actually cut it in half with a wire cutter, scissors or a knife.
Good instruction on soldering pin headers:

Odd situation...
getting ERR: NO IP... which suggests poor wifi signal. My laptop is working over a greater distance. in the same room...
initially the printer was about 2 metres from the router. still getting that message 300mm from router!
I don't have a Micro USB Dongle to try.
Looking at My Router records, there is an entry for a device that I don't recognise...
could the ESP_802812 be the Pi Zero W?
If it is, it has been allocated an IP address on the router
I have just re programmed to the Ras Pi to a different access point, also receiving NO IP message...
03:02... Time for bed!

RE: PrusaLink RPi image setup quirks
I noticed a comment or 2 here about not getting an IP on first run of the RPi0 (or other RPi) after installation. Since I too had encountered this problem, I'll pass on some observations and a solution.
I am very familiar with the Linux OS setup and have setup many RPi systems since they first appeared several year ago, I have always used dd or (lately) balenaEtcher to prepare an SD card from an image file. I would then drop a wpa_supplicant.conf file and an empty ssh file on the /boot partition and off we would go on the first boot. Apparently this does not work on the PrusaLink image - They have changed the startup and in particular the wireless setup done by systemd (removed it!?). Going back to their setup-guide and following Step 8, including downloading and running a copy of the RPi imager mentioned and enabling SSH and doing the wifi setup in the advance options menu will configure the first-run environment which seems to work OK. This was something new (too me) which I think came from the RPi NOOBS package.
Another minor problem encountered was a broken SSHD configuration which didn't allow public/private key authentication. It also turns out there is some detritus left in the /etc/ssh/ directory which needs to be cleaned out and re-generated as follows:
$ sudo rm /etc/ssh/ssh_host_* $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure openssh-server $ sudo systemctl restart ssh
That's all I have in my notes right now

Hi Ted,
I Know nothing about RasPi, except that I can't get it to work...
I get the No IP message, I started 2 metres from the access point, and then 300mm and also tried a different access point...even if the access point it turned off I get No IP, not no wifi... or any other message
i don't know where to go next,
I have tried several micro sd cards... with no luck, and several configuration attempts...
I can't see any attempt to register on the network!
I now have another raspi on order...
would it be possible for you to configure a setup for me, and share the files?
you would need my SSID, Wifi Password, and SSHL details
regards Joan

Sometimes the obvious escapes us
Hi Joan -
Please forgive a couple of dumb questions first, then we can talk about a custom config - You shouldn't need it.
- You do indeed have an RPi 0 W? That is, it has a Wifi radio - If not the W model, then no wifi 🙁
- Did you, in fact, use the Raspi imager to set it up?

Hi Ted,
Yes I used Raspi Imager, and I used software 0.5.2 with RasPi zero W with the printed spacer and 5 long pins...
I have used 3 different 16GB cards and one router and one access point.
I would prefer to use the access point if possible, because the router is a fair distance from where the printer will be, and the SL1S had poor signal strength in that area. so I suspect the Mk3 will also struggle.
first time round i added the SSID and password for wifi, but no ssh password because it was noted as optional...
Plugged the pi in, opened the raspi serial port.... and NOTHING AT ALL...
No evidence of Pi working...
then I tried a different sd card and got Pi booting... and No IP...
different access point details, different sd card, same results...
Basically gross incompetence... Lol

Serial port access?
Plugged the pi in, opened the raspi serial port....
Does this mean you have serial port access to the Pi? If so, can you log into the default pi account, psw: raspberry (I think)? If so can you send me the output of the dmesg command or a copy of the /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages file. There will probably be a good indication as to what went wrong therein. Another alternative ('cause I'm lazy about configuring a console unless I have to) is if you can mount the root partition (ext4 fs) and grab the /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages files.
There may be some other issue with your wifi setup and it could get complicated without logs. If the SSID and password are correct and your wifi AP and associated SSID are setup for the 2.4GHz band (the W does not support 5GHz band), then viewing the logs is the best way forward.
Oh BTW - the ESP_802812 station is an Espressif wifi module in some sort of IoT device (wifi switch?).
Other thoughts/questions:
- Does your router have wifi or just your AP?
- If there are 2 wifi stations, do they have different SSIDs?
- Can you connect to the AP with other devices using same credentials as RPi OK?
This could get to be difficult to diagnose without more data. If you have any friends with Linux / wifi experience handy, they may be better suited to help if local. We can continue as long as you want to. [Hey, you are a mod here - just shoot me an email]
Hi Ted,
Yes I can access your email, but doing so for personal reasons, without your permission is a bit naughty.
I will see what I can dig out from the files... I'm not good with Linux.
the Router has Wifi, and the repeater also has wifi and has it's own SSID and password.
My laptop will log on to both and access the internet through both
there is an alwea power outlet which may well be the Espressif device
Might need to take a pause... I am in A&E at the hospital.

Wireless communications is an oxymoron.
You have my permission - we've done enough damage on this hi-jacked thread already. I'm usually available (US Eastern TZ)
Yes, I know what a mods responsibilities are - I am a sysadmin/developer for a rather large public forum supporting a development community for Linux wireless routers, etc.
Why do I always have to enter a subject title on my replies to a topic???
Yank the Pi Zero for network problems
Pull the Pi Zero off of the printer. Attach a keyboard, mouse & display. Fuss with the wireless network that way.
https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/
No reason why it should not work, but you won't get very far diagnosing via the printer's console. PrusaLink is just some python scripts running on Rasberry Pi OS. Networking is the sole responsibility of the Pi OS.
Then, zap it back on your printer.

RE: Yank the Pi Zero for network problems
Good idea - however, there is no GUI (X11) or desktop support installed on this config so the display will only show boot output and the mouse will not be terribly useful. It is sufficient to connect the USB port to a host and after boot-up, you can login to the pi account via your host serial terminal emulator. The RPi will power-up just fine thru the USB connector. You won't need to use the PWR IN connector.
raspi-config
raspi-config is much better than staring at the printer.

Questions about the set-up/installation process
Hi all,
I installed Prusa link on the RaspPi Zero W and I kinda missed the "add printer" to PrusaConnect step. The wizard opened the prusa connect web page but I was not logged in yet so I'm stuck and I can't add my printer to PConnect. How should I proceed from there?
Thanks!
Mathieu
RE: Questions about the set-up/installation process
If you can SSH into the Raspberry Pi, you will want to delete the "prusa_printer_settings.ini" file. That will restart the setup wizard for the printer.

Thanks it works now!

RE: Questions about the set-up/installation process
is ssh disabled by default? How can it be enabled please?
RE: Questions about the set-up/installation process
Yes it is, when you install the image. There are several ways how to enable it.
RE:
Thanks, I had enabled it, was just using the prusalink user instead of "pi"
