Is no input shaper profile still needed after 5.1.2 fw?
Upgraded my mk3s+ to mk4 last weekend. Printed with and without input shaper profile with eccellent quality, tested pla and petg, no significant difference except input shaper is way faster. Fw 5.1.2. The question is: is no input shaper profile still needed? If so for what use? Maybe more difficult materials such as flexible, that usually requires slow speed? Is there still a reason to keep using both profiles, with and without IS? And if so, why?

I still primarily use the non-IS profiles unless I'm specifically trying to print something quickly.
For me, the benefits to non-IS are
- Better layer adhesion - The longer a layer has to melt into the previous layer, the more those layers adhere to each other.
- Improved quality - While IS is still incredible, I still find scenarios where it moves just a little too fast and results is a slight degradation in quality.
- More exact geometry - Since input shaping can smooth out fine details, some of the more precise elements of a print can be lost.
If I were printing things on a tighter schedule, IS should be the way to go. However, nearly all of my prints are not constrained by print time so I prefer they take their time and give me the best result possible.

PetG comes out with a matte with IS. You can't increase the temp enough to compensate for speed. I often print without IS if I want it glossy and stronger adhesion between layers. Prototypes use IS

For me, the IS profiles work well when printing large objects with a significant bed contact area and relatively low exterior detail. For small parts, or parts with important exterior details I find that the Non-IS profiles work better with more reliablity.

Thanks all for the answers
Just a question: to switch between IS and not-IS profiles is selecting the correct printer profile in Prusa slicer enough, or is there also something to do on the printer itself?

Nothing to change on the printer.

can you get the same benefits with input shaping enabled and non-is speeds? would that not get you even better quality?
(i have always used the is profiles, but if non-is is better in some cases i want to know)

Would like to know the same.
