Disappointing print quality with IS?

Hi,

Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but I’m getting bad print quality with the IS profiles. I’ve printed using speed and structural slicer presets on .2 layer heights, and neither are what I’d call good. Structural is the better of the two, but on both the top and bottom layers have holes where filament has been missed or wasn’t extrude enough. The speed version seems to distort in places, and watching it you can see it ripping prior layers of infil away when it’s doing a layer above it resulting in blobs

I’ve been printing using Prusament PETG, using the profile for that, using the latest Prusaslicer and latest release of the 5.0.0 firmware (I.e not the RC)

It’s in an enclosure, so it’s not environmental. I’ll post some pics later, as the parts that really exhibit the issue are currently in my workshop.

Is there update slicing profiles? All the pictures of other peoples prints using IS and faster printing seem much better than mine.

Cheers

Jason.

RE:

Pics as promised. The first two pictures are of the latest print using the .2 Speed IS profile, Prusament PETG. You can see that what are supposed to be straight lines are distorted and the top infil isn't great:

These were printed using the .2 Structural profile. Same filament. It's better, but still not great - these where printed top face down to the print bed, and you can see gaps.

They're usable, but nowhere near as good as I've seen others achieve. My printer is an upgraded Mk3s to full Mk4. All self checks pass. What am I missing?

[EDIT] - Oops not sure what's happened with the pics. They're all upside down, and no, it's not because my printer is on the ceiling. Nor am I located in Australia. 🙂

This is definitely not what you should expect.

I would first choose a non-IS profile and do a test print. Also print with other PETG to rule out the material.

Does it print the same way with PLA?

Somehow it doesn't seem to extrude consistently. Have you tried changing the tension on the extruder?

RE:

I’ve checked the belt tension, and it seems way off. The Y belt seemed way too slack, yet the Prusa ‘app’ for the harmonics said it was too tight. I tightened regardless, and now it says it’s just right. Similarly with the X. I guess I took it as read that the belts where ok when I checked them using the app during the upgrade. Especially as all was fine with slower printing prior to the firmware upgrade.

I think this was a major part of the issue, as printing out the same item results in a much cleaner print. I also did do a full printer self check which does an extruder recalibration.
