Various file types query

Hi all

Im waiting for my mini plus to arrive, so ive been doing some reading up and i have a question, which may seem very basic to you but i just need to understand.

Say i want to print a back case for my LCD screen and i found a nice one from 4nthonylin

The files are listed under PRINT and MODEL. Am i right in assuming print and be loaded onto the mini without using prusa slicer?

there are many files available for download, STL , Gcode and 3mf. My question is which file should import into prusa slicer? ( 3mf or STL )

and under what circumstances would i use gcode?

Lastly, i see a step file is available....can you advise me on this?

Sorry for all the questions but im hoping you can advise

Thank you

RE: Various file types query

Hi Eirlink

Step files are for importing into 3D modelling software so that you can modify the Model
STL's are files ready for loading in your slicer,
.3mf files are Prusa Slicer Project files which contain the model and the settings the originator planned to use.
this may be a good place to start with slicing your own gcode... BUT, please be aware that the original file may have been set up for a different printer, different filament or different nozzle size. so check those before you slice the file.
.gcode files are ready sliced files...  if these are sliced for your printer type, with the filament type you intend to use and the nozzle size you intend to then you may be good to start with a Gcode file, if not....   slice to your own settings...
