Need help to make my print look better!

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Prusa Mini+ that came semi -assembled. I'm kinda new to the 3d printing world and also have another printer at home (Ultimaker 2+).

I print exclusively PETG (Polymaker Polymax) for specific things that I'm selling.

I recently designed something new that I'm planning on selling in my shop too, but so far the prototypes came out looking like the picture.

It's not smooth and you can clearly see the lining. It only happens on round shapes though.

I was suggested that it's a problem of printing temp fluctuations, and I remember reading that the Prusa mini hot end is not the best and a lot of people are swapping it for something else. I was also told to look at the mini settings and do a PID tuning , however the mini doesn't have that option.

What do you think?

I have a Trianglelab titanium heatbreak on hand, should I install it? Would it make a difference?

Looking forward to learn about this. Thank you.

Something is loose, looks like your package was shaken up in transit...

Begin by checking the belt tensions and consider printing:

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/46639-tension-meter-for-the-gt2-belts-of-i3-mk3s-or-prus

It MUST be printed in Prusament PETG or the spring tension will be wrong.

Mini doesn't have PID tuning as an option in the LCD menu but you can do it via Pronterface.  But I wouldn't bother. There is no reason to believe it's necessary with the stock hotend (and I would argue even most third party hotend.

Likewise, I wouldn't consider replacing the hotend. The stock hotend is just fine. The print quality on my Minis with stock hotends was on par with that on my Mk3S printers, and the onLy reason for me to switch to Dragons was that the Dragon allows me to swap nozzles single-handedly which I do all the time.

Likewise for the titanium heat break. Seems like for every post that somebody got better results  from the Bondtech heat break there's one that claims it made things worse. FWIW, I never noticed any issues with the stock heat break, and my titanium heat break is still sitting in the drawer.

I agree with @diem, things might have been shaken up during transit. It has certainly happened to me. I would check the belt tension and also tighten all screws, including the grub screws on the motor axles. I would also check the axis alignments. I had quite a bit of xz skew with one machine. Just Google for "prusa mini xz skews" to get to the respective page in the Prusa knowledge base.

Hello!

I have a question: Does anyone use Prusa for lithophane printing? What settings dou you recommend for high quality printing?

Thanks in advance

Plenty do, I've no idea why.

I don't, not on any 3D printer.  Far better to print your picture as a transparency on a 2D printer and then maybe use a 3D printer to make a lightbox and frame.

Using a 3D printer to make low quality 2D images is a waste of the technology.

@diem, now tell us how you REALLY feel about it 😃😇 But yeah, I kind of feel the same way. It's one of those things I've never had an urge trying.
