Mini+ Single Extruder Dual Colour

Hi there everyone and happy belated new year (think it’s still just about acceptable)

Apologies in advance as I’m still only a few weeks into learning some of the more nuanced areas of my printer and currently struggling to find content online to help me here.

So I’ve come to the expert community in the spirt of looking for a bit of advice and guidance !

im trying (and failing) to print a simple black and white panda that is made up of (you guessed it) 2 colours - it is a pre made STL than has been split and I’ve been able to get as far as separating colours with multi extruded and assigning them colours.

now the bit I’m stuffing with. I’ve added the M600 gcode which I assumed forced a manual switch out of colours for every colour shift detected but my printer seems to do it prior to printing (I’ve read I can force this one off) and then ignores all else and just prints In black and goes to its block to suggest it’s changed colour then back to printing it what it now presumes is white (which we all no of course isn’t as I haven’t changed it)

I then worried that perhaps asking a little too much of my mini+ as I know I can do later colour changes but there are ALOT given the fact that the white and black are in most cases on the same layer.

am I missing something as I don’t think I could face manually telling it every point it needs to change colour !

RE: Mini+ Single Extruder Dual Colour

Assuming you get the colour changes to work, the good news is that there will only be one change every two layers where both colours exist on the same layer...
the slicer keeps the last colour used on the present layer, to be the first colour used on the next...

can you save your project as a project file (File>Save project as)
this will give you a .3mf file, of the name you choose.
then Zip Compress the .3mf file, and attach the ZIP file to the next post!

regards Joan

Thanks so much for coming back to me!

Sorry I have just created a blank canvas (as in no extruder options selected)

I would PM you to talk through as think I may just be needed a small bit of guidance on the 'how' but happy to problem solve what I think I am making a meal out of?!

Thanks again!

RE: Mini+ Single Extruder Dual Colour

Hi Jamie

I don't have a mini,
so I have done the best approximation I can for you

I have set the printer with 2 virtual extruders
enables Multimaterial single nozzle
enabled purge tower
Added M600 to the Custom Gcode>Tool change Gcode section   to hopefully force a filament change at every colour change  (there will be 150  (151) filament changes)
Increased the Purge volume, because Black to white changes are notoriously susceptible to Colour Bleeding (Grey Whites and maybe light blacks)
the model will start with Black (there may be an un-necessary filament change immediately after start of printing, if so, just reload black. )

I think that's about it...
during filament changes, do not remove the waste material, instead, hold it with pliers or tweezers (Or heat proof fingers) the printer may ooze an additional bit of filament after the filament change, and this will remain attached to the waste that you are holding.
this saves trying to chace the nozzle and remove the extra waste.

Hope this works for you.
regards Joan

I guess it would help if I actually included the project file.
