Amazon Basics Translucent Red PLA experiences?

Beginner here, so apologies in advance if the answers are obvious.

I'm having issues with the Amazon Basics Translucent Red PLA. The printer is a Prusa Mini+, and I've printed various PLAs (Prusament, GiantArm) without any issues. The first print with the Translucent Red also came out nice with the standard settings. However, subsequent prints seemed to attach fine to the bed but tore off later during the print.

I've tried to reduce bed temperature: It says 40-55 C on the spool, so I tried 40 and 55, which made the problem even worse; no attachment at all. I'm a little scared to go higher than 60 as that is already above spec.

Does anyone have experience with this particular brand of filament? Any good settings or things I can try? Should I try to reduce print speed on the first layers or switch off cooling?

As I said, I'm only starting with 3D printing. I would be glad to get some pointers.

Have you tried giving the bed a really thorough clean,  could be some contaminants on the print surface.

Which print surface are you using, smooth or textured?

What are you using to clean the bed?

Tank you very much!

I have not used this specific color but no issue with the others.

bump up the temp, give the bed a good clean, put a brim on the print.

not translucent but i've found the amazonbasics stuff all need to run hotter than the stated temps

oh, and double check your z, i've also found there are differences between the filaments which might be just enough to detatch if your z was only just squished enough before it

If this is the same translucent red that came in a sample pack from Amazon Basics, it printed fine on my MK3s with default generic PLA settings in PS.

I justed opened my roll last night.  It prints fine.  You have to adjust your a Z a little, but it prints.

By "tore off later during the print" do you mean that the print just came unattached completely or that the print starts to warp and become curved, therefore lifting off of the heat-bed?  D

If it is the former, then I would do as others have suggested, give a good cleaning.  Once in a while I use a dish soap solution to give a good clean, then rinse off, then clean with IPA 90%.

If it is the latter, then it is likely a cooling-too-fast issue.  Have you adjusted any relevant settings that might affect this?:

  • Heat bed turned down too low
  • part fan turned up higher during early layers
  • increased part fan speed
  • external factors such as air conditioning or open window causing cool airflow

In general amazon-basics filament is popular and well liked so the problem shouldnt be in the filament itself unless you got a bad batch.

I am on my second and third print.  I will post a review this weekend with my settings.

Hi, I'm a newbie and have now also a PLA Filament from AmazonBasics. (With the original Prusament all is fine).

My first try was to use the default settings from the PrucaSlicer, but this ends in the spaghetti hell. So after cleaning it I tried with lower values for temp 210/205 and 65/65. The result is really better, but sometimes the material still produces strings or the first layer detaches from the bed (minimal).

So what are your experiences now?

Thx

I had to lower my temps also.  I am also getting some spaghetti with Fusion PETG.
