3 Layer colored print

Looking to print a sign that has three different layer colors. I have the first two colors in PETG but the third color is a PLA roll. Can I do this or should I purchase the third layer color in PETG as well? I know that the two filaments have different heat requirements for printing and thats about I know for sure. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think you could do this, but you would have to manually edit the Gcode, I think you will need to use hairspray on the topmost PETG layer to get the PLA to stick, and possibly even slow down the first PLA layer depending on how complicated the print is.

You will need to add filament changes in Prusaslicer, slice one version with PETG settings and one with PLA, and then open them in a text editor and use the first two part from one file and the last part from the other.

I tried to print PLA on PETG and it didn’t stick very well, it looked good at first and printed “nice” but it separated afterwards.

I haven’t tried with hairspray as robee mentioned but I would buy another roll of PETG and save a lot of hassle.

I wanted to try this too but I never did. Have you thought of printing the parts in different prints and then glue it together with CA glue?

geooer2 hadn't thought about that one yet but sounds like a good idea. I just ordered Prusa Mini yesterday. Will be my very first 3D printer. Was doing some research before purchase. CA is superglue right?

@geoper2

I agree glue is probably the best option.

PLA and PETG does not stick well together. You need to stay with PETG or PLA only.

You can also do a simple test print with a cube and verify yourself.
