Wireless WIFI Hard Drive

Has anyone tried to connect a wireless (WIFI) hard drive to the USB instead of using the thumb drive on the Mini? It would be easier to send a gcode file to the hard drive - and it's less wear and tear on the USB socket on both the Mini and my PC. The wireless hard drive requires that the USB connection to the drive be disconnected in order to receive the gcode file - so one could just put a USB data in-line switch in place - turn the switch off, upload the g-code, then turn the switch back on. If the USB thumb drive's  files were copied over to the root of the hard drive, would the mini treat the wireless drive the same as the  USB thumb drive? You can find a WIFI hard drive on Amazon.

I do not think you can use a USB Harddrive on the printer without a raspberry pi.

Octoprint on a Raspberry Pi would be much more flexible and very likely cost less.

While probably feasible it feels like a convoluted solution inferior to network based solutions such as Octoprint or Astroprint or -- when it finally sees the light of day -- Prusa Connect. All of those feature a broad range of options beyond what you'd get from a WiFi storage device. And while they may take a bit more effort to set up, I'd say the effort is well worth it. And once you have more than one printer it becomes a no-brainer in my book.

@fuchsr

I have to agree.  I would love to have a Prusa released product, but until then I use Octroprint with astroprint.
