USB Stick Required to Continue Printing?

After several hours of fooling around with the nozzle/MINDA height and Live Z (Both wrong out of the box and a bad 4.0.5 firmware file on the included USB stick), I finally got my new Mini printing.  To keep things short for the first print I selected the whistle.  It was printing beautifully, but at about half way through the print, I removed the USB stick to load a file for a temperature tower. As soon as I removed the USB stick, the print stopped and would not resume without beginning the entire print again.  When using a Taz 6 I can remove/reinstall the SD card any time after the print starts.

Does a USB stick have to remain in the Mini during the entire print???  Is the buffer not large enough even for this small print?

Thanks, pidra.

I finally had time to wait for a PrusaChat connection and was told the same thing.  I suggested that they consider adding that fact to the assembly manual, since other printers do not have that requirement.

I also asked about using denatured alcohol, available in hardware stores here in the USA as marine stove and chafing dish fuel - AKA Sterno -  to clean the bed since IPA is almost not available right now.  Since denatured alcohol is made from varying combinations of methyl alcohol (methanol), ethyl alcohol (ethanol) and IPA, I thought it would be safe.  Chat confirmed that it is "probably OK".

Since denatured alcohol is all I have, "probably" is better than "don't do it".  I will confine the cleaning to only one side of the smooth bed until I can confirm that it does not cause any long-term damage.

@vazovsky

as an alternative to sterno, a wash in the sink with dish soap (plain Dawn or Palmolive, Plain no extra stuff) and a rinse with clean water and dry with clean white paper towels will work.  This is a common occurrence with MK3 and MK2 sheets. it works well and is proven.  Also do not touch the printbed except for the edges will minimize the need to clean the sheets.  see the Mk3 Assembly subforum for additional info on this.

Also, yes, you need a USB installed to print, same with the MK3 except it is a micro usb in an adapter...

Maybe a future enhancement could be that the printer does a pause if the USB drive is removed. Then you could reinsert it and resume. The firmware could do a cursory check to see that the file is still on the drive, the timestamp is the same and the file size has not changed. This would be slightly different than a normal pause since the firmware would need to re-open the file and skip forward to the place in the file it was before.
