USB Stick & Prusa Mini

Hi all,

I have already a prusa MK3s, and bought the Prusa mini that I received few days ago.

After having built it, I have copied gcode files on 4 different usb sticks, but although the keys were recognized by the printer, the content wasn't seen. So impossible to launch any printing. The firmware on the printer is the 4.2.1, and al the sticks have been formated under FAT32 format. Nothing works. It looks like the usb stick reader cannot read the file system.

I have tried something else : I have connected the printer on my LAN, with one USB stick inserted, and then asked the printer to Save the LAN configuration onto the key (Settings / Lan / Save). Re-inserting my USB key into my laptop, it happens that the printer could create the .ini file on the stick, which has been a surprise. Since that moment, any gcode that I have copied afterwards on the key file could be read by the printer.

However, Windows 10 on my laptop tells me that the key has some errors, which makes me think that the format of the file system update by the printer is a bit different from the one generated by windows. A bit strange...

RE: USB Stick & Prusa Mini

I've had similar issues, but not gotten to the same results.  Every USB key I've had an issue with was USB3 with the blue insert.  All of my USB2 keys work great.  I've gotten some of the USB3 keys to work correctly, but in the mad dash of troubleshooting, I lost track of what actually fixed it on the solution that worked.  Now that I've gone over to Octoprint, it's a non issue.

Thank you for this update. I am investigating the Octoprint solution.

It is a pitty that Prusa didn't put a SD card reader like on the MK3(s) as it works very well, and is very convenient.

Hi, a quick update. Finally found where the issue is.

When I copy only one gcode file on the USB stick, it is not seen by the printer.

If I copy 15 or 20 gcode files on the USB stick, then they are all seen by the printer. This is a very strange behavior, I will report it to the Prusa team.

If this is the Prusa supplied memory stick, please try with a different one.

Some folk have reported issues with the Prusa Memory stick.

Hi Joan,

Thank you very much. I have had this issue with any USB keys, and I could sort it out by copying several gcode files on a personal usb stick. I have reported the issue to Prusa, hoping that it could help improving this very good printer.

Thank you !

Emmanuel

After the prusa usb kept watchdog erroring i swapped to a sandisk ultra usb3 memory stick and it worked fine, i swapped in an older sandisk usb2 and it behaved exactly as described, formatted ok but no files were visible.

Check whether the USB drive is formatted as GPT or MBR, it has to be MBR. Just formatting a drive keeps GPT or MBR as it was. I had this issue once, took me a while to figure it out. I told the support to add this critical step to their knowledge base instruction, but it did not happen yet..
