Upgrading from 4.4.1 -> 5.1.0; Mini hung during firmware update

I updated our Mini to 4.4.1 before upgrading to 5.1.0.

The 4.4.1 update works smoothly but updating to 5.1.0, the update process hung for 20min and the "Verifying" message was partially erased. Now I can't boot the Mini; it hangs on the partially visible "Verifying" message.

Any recommended recovery steps on failed firmware update?

I tried to re-installing 4.4.1 but it didn't work.

I was able to roll back to 4.4.1 but the self-test fails while trying to test the fans. It appears to crash and then I get a WATCHDOG error. Restarting and skipping the self test gets me to extruding plastic for a filament load. I tried four times and just gave up on the HW test.

I'll be testing prints for the next few days to make sure I'm back to a working printer; goes without saying I lost my settings on the reset.

5.1.0 firmware update hasn't gone as smoothly as past firmware updates. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. I may try again after I'm back to reliable printing, but I'll need to shift over to our Voron for our Etsy store prints in the mean time.

Use a different USB stick and reset to factory settings.  It tries to write to the USB stick when errors happen and if it can't, bad stuff.  Every weird thing I have seen has been due to a bad USB stick.

I was able to install 5.1.0 but having issues.

Changing the USB thumb drive and removing all the files except the en_cs.bbf allowed the install to move forward.

However, the hardware test failed the nozzle heater, but passed when testing heaters and fans individually.

The MINI halts at 2 or 3 layers into the job complaining an issue with the fan even though it passes the hardware test. I just printed on the MINI a day ago with no issues on firmware v4.4.1. I'm downgrading until these issues get sorted - giving up for the time being. 🙁
