Suddenly getting z banding on all prints, please help?

Hi, as the picture shows, I'm suddenly getting what looks like quite severe Z banding on all my prints opn one of my Minis. It's happening on all files of which I've printed 100s of times over the last several months and with different filaments so is definitely a hardware issue.

I'm not sure what to look at as everything appears fine on the machine, can anybody help please? I searched but can't see anyone having this issue on a prusa mini.

Cheers

Did you update the firmware recently?

@tracy

Hi, no didn't update it.

I went around checking all screws. It did 2 prints good and then did the same thing again although on only about an inch of z height, not on the whole print. Then I realised that it was actually non stop layer shifting, not banding.

I tried moving the hotend by hand and it was so stiff although had been fine before.I loosened the belts slightly and now it moves freely from left to right but when pushing it from right to left it stutters and gets caught several times. but only when moving in that direction.

I'm worried the motor could have a problem...?

I just recently had to replace the idler on the Y axis, and decided to try the latest firmware as well, and now I have z banding as well.

Checked every screw, belts are tight, latest firmware + slicer, prusament white, standard setting in slicer.

I printed these 3 test towers, one diagonal, just to see if that made any significant change. (you can ignore the water droplets on the 3rd tower 🙂
