Prusa supplied USB stick causes watchdog timer fault and reboots printer during print
New mini printed about 10 items successfully before starting acting strange. The print stopped in the middle and displayed a "watchdog timer" error. I did a quick post on a facebook Prusa Mini users group. Recommendation was to swap the USB sticks. I first tried formatting the supplied USB stick. I re-loaded the file and re-started print. Error happened at the second layer. I swapped the USB drive with one I had and the problem appears to have cleared.
Has anyone else experienced this with the Prusa supplied USB stick? It was reported by at least two people on the Facebook forum, so I suspect they may have a batch of bad USB sticks.
RE: Prusa supplied USB stick causes watchdog timer fault and reboots printer during print
This has been reported a bit, yes, the Mini firmware doesn't handle a dying USB stick very well. And the ones shipped with the Mini aren't of the usual Prusa quality standard IMO. (My stick died after about a week)
Nothing is wrong with your Mini, just use a different stick as you have already found.

Same here. 2bout of my first 4 prints failed with watchdog error. After that I switched to a branded Stick and had no issues since.
RE: Prusa supplied USB stick causes watchdog timer fault and reboots printer during print
And same here. On my new mini, I printed flawlessly stock models already on supplied usb stick (treefrog and whistle), however all three other prints from my own exported gcode failed in various ways: two failed horribly, and one just did not finish - with the added bonus that after printing the hotend stayed heated (for many hours in one case since I printed during the night).
After re-opening the g-code that was on the USB stick, I saw that for all files the end was corrupted (hence the code for stopping heating at the end of the print was not there to be read anymore).
I tried to reformat the usb drive, and it just died for good.
In a sense I was lucky, the scrambled gcode did not end up pushing the nozzle into the bed with maximum heating ...
RE: Prusa supplied USB stick causes watchdog timer fault and reboots printer during print
There's a recent firmware alpha release that supposedly addresses the USB issue.
https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/releases
Together with the chipset manufacturer (STM company), developers have tested and deployed a new version of the USB driver. As a result, the Buddy board should now be able to communicate even with the problematic USB drives.
Should you still have issues with your USB drive, please report it in the Buddy Repository.
This alpha release is broken if you are using Octoprint BTW.
They already fixed this issue for the next release supposedly.
On my side issue was fixed by switching to a better USB stick.
RE: Prusa supplied USB stick causes watchdog timer fault and reboots printer during print
I recently posted a thread of my Mini+ not seeing the directories and files on the Prusa USB drive when selecting the Print Menu. Windows format failed to format, but running format from a Windows command prompt formatted the drive successfully. I'm now printing from the same Prusa USB drive, but after reading this thread I'll expect it to fail sooner than later. I got my Mini+ on April 30th, 2021.
RE: Prusa supplied USB stick causes watchdog timer fault and reboots printer during print
Follow up...I threw away the Prusa USB drive yesterday, but not before keeping the keyring. After some 3d printing on the Mini+ I connected it to my PC and attempted to delete some of the gcode files. Some of them were still visible after supposed deletion so that was enough weird behavior for me. I'm now using a Patriot 64GB USB drive formatted FAT32 using the rufus-3.14 format utility. Happy 3d Making!
