Tried with another usb key, printed a benchy without that bug... 🤔 Waiting for support to inspect the dumped log file.

I just received my mini.
Using the included models, I got that error on the benchy as well as on the whistle.
I dumped the gcode on the usb key on the second time.  I'm on  4.0.5

Here's the dump :

https://drive.google.com/open?id=10_XvazBdLkV24ZP792-hRcFttpvMxlVi

Also, I noticed the usb key was disconnected after the crash.
Maybe the usb key is faulty?

It's mentioned elsewhere on this forum but I had the same issue but only when printing the Nut. I downloaded the model onto a different thumb drive and no longer get a watchdog reset. Maybe the included thumb drive is bad?

RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset

I have gotten this error two times in the past 24 hours with two different gcodes. The only pattern I can see so far is that after pressing in the wheel to go back to the home screen from the watchdog screen it shows that no USB is connected even though it is. (I am using the USB stick supplied by Prusa) This is on firmware 4.0.5. I have never run the printer on anything other than 4.0.5, the first thing I did after assembling it was flash the latest firmware.

I also described my issue, provided photos, and dump files here: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/issues/255#issuecomment-620898703

The Mini seems very sensitive to USB errors, but also the factory USB stick is poor quality. So first thing is to try a different stick, then remove any extension cables if you were using one.

Since I stopped using the factory USB drive haven't had a single problem, now using a USB adapter +FlashAir SD card.

I did a few more print without this error. So it reaally looks like to the provided usb stick is faulty.
I just attached it to my keychain and stopped using it with the mini.

RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset

I've been having these problems lately too.  I moved the machine out to my garage where it is cooler...  starting temperature seems to be the issue.

Troubleshooting, I could provoke the error my manually trying to raise the nozzle temp,  every time I'd try to manually increase it, even just 1 degree, it failed, reset, and watchdog.   I remembered someone saying they'd used a lighter to heat the nozzle a touch, so I tried that, and as soon as I saw then nozzle temp rising, I tried again, and it worked fine.    Bringing the nozzle close to the heat bed and then manually heating that would do the trick too.

Seems like a 'low temp' trigger was inadvertantly dropped into the logic.

This also explains why I have no issue when I run successive prints, or while my house was warm.  I first noticed the issue on a cool morning where the house was about 60F.  (16 C)

PRUSA's literature says it must be over 20C...  it's a safety feature to ensure a broken sensor can be detected.  Guess, I'll just keep using a lighter in the garage when it's cold to get it going.   Would be nice if this was set just a touch lower...  5 C would be good.

Having the same issue, from what I've tested it does seem to be the USB stick provided.

Had the same problem, watchdog error showing mid-print even after re-slicing. Noticed that the USB stick was quite warm even after the printer had been left to cool down. Tried again with the same USB and same Gcode but using an extension cable for the USB and that printed fine so I'm not sure if the USB was strictly the problem in my case.

RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset

I get this error almost always after restarting a print. I'm on 4.0.5

  • start new print
  • stop the print - ex. something goes wrong, the temps begin to go down
  • start the print again, the nozzle temp is going (either upwards if it already cooled down to much, or downwards if I was faster) torwards 170 for bed leveling
  • error..

I'll try a different usb stick

RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset

Hi, this is my first post here. I just got the Mini last Wednesday (after a 5 month production delay!) I immediately had problems with the included USB drive as it would only list the contents of the drive for a brief second and then appear to be empty on the Mini. Plugging this drive into my PC worked as expected, so I copied the files to a different USB drive. My first 2 prints worked beautifully, 3D Benchy and the Whistle. But then every gcode I tried that was supplied by Prusa would fail. It would either pause some way through printing, or would give a Watchdog Error.

On a whim, I sliced a different object myself, and tried it out. Worked perfectly. So that's when I suspected that not only was the Prusa USB drive bad, but that the files it included were corrupt. I downloaded the same files again from PrusaPrinters.org and so far everyone has completed successfully.

TLDR: DON'T USE THE PRUSA USB THUMB DRIVE!!!! DON'T EVEN USE THE GCODE OR FIRMWARE ON IT! USE YOUR OWN USB DRIVE AND DOWNLOAD OR SLICE THE FILES YOURSELF!!!!

I still get the error with a new stick and the same steps.

my guess is there is some timeout for the temps to adjust..

  1. I ran into the same issue. It was the USB stick.  I swapped it out and am not having a problem... Bit irritating.  I would have been banging my head against a wall if I hadn't found this thread.

RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset

I had the same issue yesterday with the original USB stick. I would get the watchdog error about when I would expect the printer to home and start MBL. I thought I may have a bad file so I took the stick back to my Mac. Now the USB stick won't mount on the Mac either. It appears to be totally dead.

Same Problem here, Print of the Test-Nut did not even finish 1st Layer.
New USB-Stick - works without issues.
They should really act quick and trash all the Sticks before they cause more confusion...

And - Print quality is outstanding, very happy with the Mini!

RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset

Same issue here 🙁 From time to time mid-print I get this freaking watchdog error and the entire print is lost. This happened already a few times using the original USB stick but happens also using other and new ones. It works quite a while but then starts unpredictable and irregularly to fail. Its really annoying to be honest if you can't do reliable prints on this machine because of weak USB electronics. It is like gambling and makes this printer far less useful as it could be. Lost already quite a few multi-hour prints - waisting all the filament and energy 😖 I mean, print quality is great but how much is it worth if the machine itself is not reliable and you never know if your print will ever finish ... diminishes the value of this machine. I now use other 3D printers to do the jobs and use the mini only for less important smaller print jobs. Sad enough!

Thanks for the help! My Mini also stopped two times mid-print and it was indeed a faulty USB stick. Replaced and printing fine now.
