Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset
Hi,
I have received the mini a week ago, everthing went well until now.
I am now unable to print anything, once I press "Print" the mini shuts down and resets showing a red screen : watchdog reset.
What are my options to solve this problem ?
Thank you for your help,
Jules.
RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset
I have the same problem. The room temperature is 20 degrees but my temp on the mini says 12.
I set the heat bed temp to 60 and use it to warm up the nozzle past 15 degrees. Then I can print.
lower the print head closer to the bed it I’ll warm up faster.
Hope that helps.
RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset
I'm getting random mid-print watchdog resets. I even created an issue and attached crash dumps, but never heard anything from Prusa.
But I guess mines are different then yours. I can print 95 % of the time, and my room temperature matches with the number reported on Mini's screen when it's not printed and cooled down (21/22 degrees.)
RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset
Thank you guys !
My problem is solved, I moved the printer to a heated room, and the problem is gone 😉
I have 4 printers total and the mini is the only one having a problem with low temps... could this be solved in futur firmware updates or is it just the way it's going to be ?
RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset
Hi. I am having the same kind of problem, but it is intermittent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it should heat the bed it just reset it self. Always comeback with the Watchdog reset mesage, but more then once it showed up the follow message. I don't know what does that mean
If anyone know what it could be, please, let me know.
RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset
Instruction prefetch fault probably means the code jumped to a bad address. I guess that a watchdog fault could also occur if the code jumped to some random point in memory and got stuck in a loop.
In both cases, there is a small possibility it is due to a fault in the hardware, but I would expect the reason to be a bug in the code. I think a few other people have seen these type of issues. I would raise an issue on the github repo, it's the best way to get the developers attention.
RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset
Perhaps this is helpful, perhaps not. I had a similar issue, which happened at the beginning of every print. The heat bed would seemingly randomly drop to 0c as the build plate moved around.
In the end (after speaking with support and various troubleshooting), it turned out that the thermistor was defective (likely the wiring part). After replacing it, everything's been working as expected.
BTW, the chat support is fabulous. Even though they're all working remote, everyone I spoke with knew their stuff and was VERY helpful.

I have the same problem. Getting here and there a Watchdog Reset! It!s anoying. I had a 14h print and than after 9h it happened again!!!
I tried firmware 4.0.4 and 4.0.5. Support said i should try 4.0.2 because this firmware shows you what kind of error it is. With the newer firmware you don't see it. Makes no sense but okay!!!
RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset
I feel your pain. Happend to me right now, 1 hour before finish of 16 hour print.
I also noticed that all the crash.dumps from 4.0.5-RC1 are binary identical, so I suppose its the same crash, and 4.0.5-RC1 has some serious bug.
Or, making crash.dump is broken.
RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset
I recently just had this issue for the first time with 4.0.5-RC1. I didn't have the issue with 4.0.4 at all but honestly I believe my Watchdog Reset issue was tied to a faulty USB stick. Initially when I had the issue I did some research and people were saying that faulty/corrupt G-code could be the culprit. I noticed that intermittently I would lose access to the USB stick on the printer itself. When I plugged it into the computer it did the same thing. This is the default stick that comes with the Prusa Mini. I always make sure to un-mount the drive before physically removing it from the computer and only remove it from the Mini after powering down. I'm not sure how it got messed up but I can see such a failure even when plugged into my computer with PrusaSlicer open the dialog at the bottom right indicating export Gcode to USB storage will appear and then disappear on its own. I swapped to a USB stick I had laying around the house and all is well again ... well on that front, my Prusa Mini is a fussy child but that's another story. Hope this helps someone, best of luck to all.

@charmande98
Could be but i think its something to do with the firmware since 4.0.4. I only can print with 4.0.2. I tried with 4.0.4/4.0.5 but always Watchdog error. The same print with 4.0.2 nö problems

@thejokerse
No worries. I've been curious about downgrading to 4.0.2 myself as I've had a bunch of odd issues with my mini. I think I've fixed most of the glaring ones not software related (broken buddy board, extruder nozzle too low/probe height, clogs and jams resulting from that and poor tension on the idler) and now I'm trying to troubleshoot some oddities in printing settings/software wise. I've printed countless times on Mk3 and I swear the Mini is so much more sensitive when it comes to different filaments or even in-between prints. If I print back to back for example the second print will almost always fail. Through the recommendation of others I've gotten into the habit of turning my printer completely off between prints, first layer calibration and purge before each print. It's ridiculous but the only way to keep my Mini printing well.
RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset
Talked to support and he said must be a problem with the gqode. But every second print I made has a bad qcode?
With 4.0.2 i can print it, so ???

@thejokerse
Yeah that doesn't sound right. It may be tolerances were tightened in 4.0.4 and .5 that trigger that warning whereas .2 lets it fly.

Yeah I think so, too!!!

@pitel
Got the same problem. My printer is in a room with a normal room temperature, I'd say ~20C. Is Prusa Support aware of this big issue? If yes, is there a link to check on the status?
thx

RE: Prusa mini resets itself showing watchdog reset
I just received my mini.
Using the included models, I got that error on the benchy as well as on the whistle.
I dumped the gcode on the usb key on the second time. I'm on 4.0.5
Here's the dump :

Also, I noticed the usb key was disconnected after the crash.
Maybe the usb key is faulty?
