Printed Directly on Heatbed - is it ruined?

I accidentally ran a print without the steel sheet and the nozzle scraped the heatbed pretty badly.  I was hoping it wasn't fatal but now it wont heat past about 44 degrees.  Do I just buy a new one(ouch)?

Best Answer by Henry:

You scratched down into the copper and probably shorted out one or more heater elements, so yes it probably needs to be replaced.

It definitely needs to be replaced if the copper got damaged.

Also inspect the nozzle for damage, especially if you're using brass. You might have to replace it as well. I see it ran over a screw, so I assume the tip is damaged now.
