MINI+ water damage - which part?

Hello,

I had some water damage to my MINI+ and plan to replace parts, but want to know which part is bad first (if possible).

When powered on, the hotend fans spin up and then down as normal. The screen stays milky-white, and the control knob beeps when I press it.

I assume there is code that powers the fan startup action, and maybe just the screen is dead.

What do you think, or is there anything else I can try before ordering parts?

Yeah, it makes difference if printer just got a splash, or if it was submerged in water (and for how long).

Anyway, first you should check electric parts for visual damage (i.e. corrosion): Buddy board, Display and wire connections. Actually you should have done that before turning printer on!

Drying

Depending on the cause and amount fo water, I would give ti a thorough drying first.  That might be enough,

How it got wet

The printer was on when it happened. A fire crew dumped water above, which leaked through the ceiling. I have no idea how much water. It is dry now for at least a month. No other damage that I can see.

I think at worst, buddy board and screen.

Ugh... If printer was on, then Buddy board probably suffered -because water can come inside from top side of the box. But then, depends on amount of water.
My guess would be, that display is still ok. I say that, because I once used a jumper on Buddy board (which I shouldn't) and at powering on, display was just lit white. After I removed the jumper, everything was ok.

screen!

After cleaning the buddy board and screen with isopropyl alcohol, the machine starts up as before. The screen is still milky white. Though I cannot see the menus, I was able to click through and preheat and also unload filament. My guess is that maybe I am lucky and only the screen is dead. I've ordered a screen. Hopefully that will be it.

RE: Screen

Screen is easy to replace:

I have two of these and they are decent replacements.
