Mini/Octoprint users rejoice - filament sensor bug fixed

The release candidate for firmware v4.3.2 is out, including this:

Filament runout during serial print

When the print has been previously initiated from the serial line (e.g., OctoPrint) and a filament runout occurred, the printer did not react accordingly and the Change filament (M600) sequence was not initiated. Now, this behavior is fixed and even when the print is initiated by the serial interface, the Filament runout initiates the local Change filament sequence on the printer.

This was a super annoying bug that made the filament sensor pretty much useless for Octoprint users. I haven't been able to install and test it yet.

That is great news.  Has anyone installed it?

How well does it work?

I'm out of town today so haven't installed it but the initial feedback on GitHub is positive. Seems to work as as advertised.

I don't want to declare victory too soon, but I came home and installed the RC.  It works.  I cut my filament just to test it and it stopped the print where with Octoprint in the past, it would have kept printing!

Well, i ran into a filament run out today on one of my machines running Astroprint and the print just aborted 🥵 May well be an Astroprint issue as the reports on GitHub for Octoprint were positive. Haven't tested it with Octoprint myself yet.

It works on all 4 of my printers.

@cwbullet

I think you're running Astroprint on some of your systems. Is it working on those systems?

I haven't really tested it explicitly. I just had a filament run-out because I wasn't paying attention to how much filament was left on the spool, and it didn't trigger the filament change procedure.

@fuchsr

It is working.  I am using AstroPrint inside octoprint.

How does AstroPrint inside of OctoPrint compare to other OctoPrint remote access plugins / services and/or OctoFarm?  Are you using PusaSlicer on your machine and sending directly to the Pi, or slicing within AstroPrint?  Are you running multiple printers through one AstroPrint?

@mkemike

I will dig into Octofarm.  I have not researched it, but it looks like a local and cheaper alternative.

I do not slice with AstroPrint normally, but have.   I have 15 printers mounted through AstroPrint.  I use it primarily to monitor printers remotely.  The camera view is essential for my processes.

I see. I have a couple of machines on raspis running Astroprint software directly, not inside of Octoprint. And I have no luck with the new firmware on those. When the filament runout triggers, I see the LCD briefly flicker but then the print continues so apparently the Astroprint software doesn't get the runout signal. The runout sensor works fine if a print is started from the memory stick. I have a spare Pi with Octoprint lying around, I guess I'll rig one of those machines up the way you did and try that.

@fuchsr

I have never tried to run a print from the SD or Astroprint proper.  Is anyone else having trouble printing from Octoprint?
