Loud nois filament change
Hello,
I have a problem with my Prusa mini.
When I have a filamentchange in between of two prints the extruder stops extruding after a few seconds and the motor makes a very loud unhealthy sound. The problem only appears when I print something before the filamentchange. When I restart the printer the filamentchange works perfectly fine.
I have upgraded to an Bondtech Extruder, but I had this problem even before this upgrade.
I made a short video to show the problem.
RE:
Hi @nils-ru
how does the filament look like? Is not ground on some part with gears? It would show, that the filament is stalled in the nozzle and cannot be unloaded.
Using bondtech you do not experience underextrusion?
How about the extruder idler?
Try to use a bit higher temperature (+5 - 10°C)

RE: Loud nois filament change
Hi Zoltan,
for the bondtech extruder I changed the Steps to E92 E415 in the Start G-Code > no under or overextrusion
My start g-code:
G90 ; use absolute coordinates M83 ; extruder relative mode M104 S170 ; set extruder temp for bed leveling M140 S[first_layer_bed_temperature] ; set bed temp M109 R170 ; wait for bed leveling temp M190 S[first_layer_bed_temperature] ; wait for bed temp G28 ; home all without mesh bed level G29 ; mesh bed leveling M104 S[first_layer_temperature] ; set extruder temp G92 E0.0 G1 Y-2.0 X179 F2400 G1 Z3 F720 M109 S[first_layer_temperature] ; wait for extruder temp M301 P13.54 I0.98 D46.58 ; Bondtech heatbreak M92 E415 ; Bondtech Exruder ; intro line G1 X170 F1000 G1 Z0.2 F720 G1 X110.0 E8.0 F900 G1 X40.0 E10.0 F700 G92 E0.0 M221 S95 ; set flow
filament looks good, no filament grind. All printing works totally fine.
What do you mean with extruder idler? I think the extruder itself has no problem at all.
As I said the loude noise appears only on filamentchange when I print before. No probelms while printing no problems on filamentchange before printing when printer frelshly reboots before.
So I think a temperature change would not change anythink. The filament "pull out" of the nozzle and heatbreak with the extruder works great. The loude noise happens with loading and deloading after printing something not instandly as on the video shown.
Do you think the problem can have something to do with slicer settings the Start G-Code fore example?
Thanks for you help
RE:
I guess the strange noise comes from a motor, does not?
After the print is paused the extruder starts the unload
1. first extrudes a bit in order to release the filament - you can see the filamnet coming out of the nozzle
2. starts the unload and then the "fast" unload - during this fast unload the filament should move fully outside the extruder.
3. does it move at all ? if so how much? - the fast unload is just moving a specific number of spins (based on the length of the PTFE tube), so if the filament is locked for while (by any reason) the motor either skips some steps (equipped by strange sound) or is grinding the filament, which you should see as a gear marks on the filament. The end result of it is, the filament is not comming out of the gears.
4. not sure the power of the fast unload is same as a normal - checked - it is equal

RE: Loud nois filament change
Yes, the probelm occurs while "fast" unloading or "fast" loading.
When I untighten the filament ideler screw allmost to the end, I dont't have the loude sound and the filament does not got stuck. But with this setup the extruder could not feed the filament reliable 🙁 I think the extruder extruder motor does not have (not anymore?) enough torque.
Is this a think, that a stepper motor looses torque? I am thinking to just replace the extruder motor
RE:
If the filament extrudes during print correctly i do not think the motor is faulty.
