Loading Filament fails

Dear Forum,

I unfortunately have the problem that loading the filament rarely works. Every time I want to change it, I need 20-30 attempts until the nozzle actually loads the filament after insertion. Is this because of me? Any general tips there?

RE: Loading Filament fails

Details? Is the extruder not grabbing? Is it transported through the Bowden tube but not far enough? In which case if you’re prompted if the color is correct, did you answer “no”? It may take a couple of “nos”, That’s quite normal behavior.

Not sure if this is related...

I would check the filament detector first.  Go to the sensor display (not sure where it is in the menu) and you should see a 0/1 for filament sensor.

Then insert and pull out the filament and the 0/1 should change appropriately.

There are a lot of people who need to fiddle with the sensor cover to get that to work.

Sorry, wrong sub-forum.  My comment applies to the MK3s

RE: Loading Filament fails
  1. Cut the filament on an angle so there’s a point being fed into the extruder.
  2. push it in firmly until you meet some resistance
  3. you may want to try pushing while it is loading to see if that works
  4.  make sure the reel of filament will turn easily
  5. It is possible the tension on the extruder is too tight or too loose and may need to be adjusted using the hex key that came with the printer. Too loose and it won’t grab and pull the filament, too tight and it may not fit in the gap
  6. is the filament the right diameter? It should be 1.75mm

hopefully this helps

RE: Loading Filament fails

Im new to 3D printing and I’ve run into some problems. When I first got the printer everything was printing fine up until four weeks after when it stopped printing halfway through a print. When I unloaded it the filament had grooves in it from where the extruder chipped away at it. After seeing that I clean the extruder I raised the heat break and also replaced the nozzle and nothing works it can’t even get a first layer down without it getting chewed up. The weird thing is I can load and unload it and also purge and everything seems fine it only happens when I print.
