Flashforge Filament not printing at all

I just opened a roll of Flashforge Black PLA and loaded it into my printer and it wouldn't print (from the beginning it would print a very thin line and eventually the extruder would start to skip). To check I loaded in Flashforge Yellow, which I have printed before, and printed a few things with no problems. Switch back to black and the issue would come back.

My other Printer (Reprap Ormerod 1 with 0.5mm Nozzle) also had a similar issue but it would get halfway through a print before jamming. The Prusa just uses standard Prusament settings (215C on Prusa slicer) the ormerod also uses Prusa slicer but custom settings at 200C.

Is there any thing that could cause this? Is there a problem with the filament itself? Someone else suggested running it a bit hotter but I haven't tried that yet.

Have you considered a temperature tower.
every roll of filament has the possibility of different properties,
and every printer has the possibility of different thermal response, so  there is no guarantee that the same temperatures will always work as expected.

A temperature tower will hopefully give the best temperature for your filament in your printer... at the time of the test.

I hadn't even heard of that. I might give that a go later.

If it is the temperature. I didn't think that the even same brand of filament could have such a wide spectrum of properties.

Thanks

It's not unusual, pigments and additives can affect plastics pretty significantly. When my father used to do injection molding, they individually set parameters for each color. Printing filaments have some range of temperatures which work best, I'd check the temp tower as Joan suggested.

Didn't do a temperature tower but I made a calibration cube and manually changed the temps. Started at 240C, went up to 245C (you can see it sort of go a bit wavy near the bottom). Then went down by 5C every ten minutes or so down to 225C (was a bit afraid to take it down to 215 as i didn't want it to clog again).

It seems to work well between 240 and 230. 225C I think I started to hear it struggle a bit. Will probably start to use it at 230C just so I don't waste it.

Thanks for your help.
