I'm in the same boat. Same issue.
I have 4.3.4 on the Mini.
Buried in the release notes for 5.1 it says "In the case of the MINI/MINI+ printer make sure you are running either the previous 5.1.0-alpha2 or at least firmware 4.4.1." 😕 
I downloaded and tried 4.4.1 - no joy
I downloaded and tried 4.4.0 - nothing
I have tried a brand new blank USB, and the one that I have always used with my printer.
Firmware set to "Always" in the menu, and pressing the reset button on the side next to the USB port.
The machine resets and does nothing. 😔 

Please help!

Same problem, i have also a 4.3.4 firmware and tried to install the 5.1.2.

Nothing happen. except when i double click the button, i'm getting a 12611 error 😑

Can we get an official firmware update that work ?

i resolved my problem by formating my USB key FAT32 & updating first from 4.4.0 (update bootloader to v2.0.2) then 4.4.1 then 5.1.2 (has bootload to v2.3.4)

but i've lost almost all languages. Now i can only set English & Spanish 😑

Sincerly, the "Edit" timeout is way too short. Anyway, i solved my language issue. On my usb key, i had to keep only ONE language & not all. the English come with any of other languages anyway.

I was at 4.3.4

upgraded to 4.4 then

4.4.1 then

5.1.0 then

5.1.2

it worked.

I've just done the same from 4.3.4 with a small difference.

First I set the firmware upgrade setting to "Always".

Then I copied every file for 4.4.0, 4.4.1, 5.1.0, 5.1.2 to the USB drive, and let the printer handle them all together.

I thought that if the algorithm is written well, it should work without any problem.

Guess what, it worked flawlessly! 

It went through every necessary update one-by-one without any issue or input needed.

I just love these products including the hardware and software!

So these aren't cumulative updates?
I understand when the bootloader software changes - you might have to do that one first - but going through every single firmware update since 4.3.4 one by one?!

It's a less than ideal user experience that's only going to get worse as time progresses. 😣 
Any actual official response from Prusa? Or updated instructions on their firmware update page?
