Filament sensor stopped working

Hi all,

just out of nowhere my filament sensor is not recognizing if filament is inserted or not. I've checked the connections and they are in place. The filament sensor is turned on in the menu.

If I send M119 via OctoPrint, it seems the filament sensor is not installed:

Send: M119
Recv: Reporting endstop status
Recv: x_min: open
Recv: x_max: open
Recv: y_min: open
Recv: y_max: open
Recv: z_min: open
Recv: z_max: open
Recv: ok

The "filament: TRIGGERED/open" is missing.

I also checked the sensor by supplying 5V power and measuring the read-out:

  • no filament: ~0.6V
  • filament present: ~1.5V

So it looks like the sensor is at least detecting something. Has anyone else encountered a similar problem?

Thanks.

Got new filament sensor today and installed it: working 👍🏻

So looks like the old one was defect, but M119 is still not showing sensor status 🤷🏼‍♂️

try this: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/25728-prusa-mk3s-ir-sensor-spacer-set

Is your printer grinding? Bearings squeaking? Motors smoking?
Step 1) Wash your Steel Sheet
Step 2) Return to Step 1

@nilok

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure this will work.

If you look at this picture of the inside of the Prusa mini filament sensor, there is not much room for such a "spacer"

https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/does-the-filament-sensor-work-actually/#post-183471

To me the problem appears, that the Buddy Board is not "seeing" the sensor... it's not that the reading is wrong, the reading is missing completely.

Sorry, I didn't realize the post was for the mini.

No problem... contacted support. They are sending me a new filament sensor. Let's hope it's just the sensor... 😬
