Filament feed issues on load Prusa Mini+

I have a Prusa Mini+, about 6 months old and purchased partially assembled, and when I tried to load filament after a roll ran empty, the filament failed to load into the second half of the feed tube to the hot end. Both tubes are clear and examination of failed loads and opening up the idler and cleaning out the filament shreds did not help. Examining the feed with the idler open, it appears that something is out of alignment and the filament is hitting a wall instead of the second half of the feed tube, as I can feel the gears biting down on load and see the mangling they give the end of the filament, about a half-centimeter back from the tip. Is there a way to fix this misalignment, or is it possible there's a filament blocking things in the base of the tube? Unloading has always been pretty difficult in the past, requiring something to brace against and a pair of pliers to remove the unloaded filament.

Any help will be appreciated, whether advice or referral to other topics that have solved a similar issue.
