Filament completely stuck in hotend

I set up an overnight print with Hatchbox PLA and came back to only the first half hour or so printed, with the head just moving through the air. Something in the hotend must have gotten severely clogged because nothing was coming out of the nozzle. The extruder had ground completely through the filament. I pulled the filament out of the extruder and tried to pull the shorter part that was stuck in the print head, but it wouldn't budge.  I removed the bowden tube, which came off with no resistance so the block wasn't there.  I heated the nozzle to 260 F, waited a few minutes, but still couldn't pull that filament out of the hot end.

I'm afraid what happened was the nozzle got suddenly and severely clogged, the extruder kept jamming in filament, which melted and oozed up into the cold parts of the print head, then solidified far enough away from the hot end that it won't re melt.

I've had my mini for just over a year and have never had any indication of a clogged nozzle. The filament comes down straight on purge and I had just completed a small somewhat intricate model at 0.1 mm resolution that printed just fine with PLA. It was a new roll of black Hatchbox PLA, so maybe there was something wrong with it, but I've never had issues with Hatchbox before. I've only ever put Prusament or Hatchbox through this machine.

I did some google searches, but couldn't find an exact duplicate of this issue, which I hope is just some bad googling.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it, hopefully without a complete teardown?

Sorry for the very late reply, but that's what I tried and it worked!  Thanks!
