filament chewed up, heartbreak issue?

I'm getting extruder slipping on my filament, which I believe may be because my heartbreak is too low... ? I watched this video on a potential fix, but my grub screws are wayyy to tight to get loose. it was starting to scare me, I dont want to break one off. I tried on one but it started rounding, with no give. should this be done hot? cold? some other way? please advise. if you need pictures of the filament or failed prints let me know.

Before doing anything drastic there are a couple of simpler things to try.

First, try tweaking your idler tension screw, look at this page and scroll down to Mini:

If this doesn't make a difference try a cold pull:

Cheerio,

Heartbreaks are tough... but I guess you mean heat break 🙂

When you say "extruder slipping on filament" what do you mean? Is the extruder not pushing the filament? That would have nothing to do with the heat break. Most likely the tension screw on the extruder would have to be tightened a bit. The Mini extruder can be quite finicky.

Or are you seeing general underextrusion? That can be caused by many issues. I would start with a cold pull in case of a partial clog.

Pictures would certainly help.

Good advice

Have done both, no change. Good suggestion, I should have specified what I had already done in the post.

Fully not pushing filament

It stops extruding, causing total print failure. Know the problem, but the set screws in heat sink stripped so I can’t fix it 🙁

A photo of your heatbreak assembly would be useful, as would one of the result of a cold pull.

RE: All I need is to get the screws out, but they’re all stripped to hell.

Even if i could just get a replacement heatsink, i would need a new heatbreak as well at minimum. thats like $60 for some crappy screws

Try taking a wide elastic band, and draping it over the grub screw socket, then press the correct Allen key into the socket, and try unscrewing again

(Don't use the Ball end of the allen key on grub screws, it tends to break the hex cups...

That looks about right for a Mini hotend.

I think your problem might be elsewhere; can anyone with more Mini experience comment?

Please show us the result of a cold pull.
