Easy support detachment

Heelo dear community. I am wondering about how to configure the slicer for easier support detachment. I also work with cura and I have configured the settings and support almost comes out by itself it's so easy and practical. But in my prusa machines I have to do a lot of work to get the support off. Real slow. Any advices? Thanks

In Prusa Slicer, first switch the user mode to "Advanced". Then, under "Print Settings", adjust "Contact Z distance" to .2mm and give it a try.

 

PETG will always be harder to remove the contact layer than PLA or ABS, which is just do to much better layer adhesion.

 

Also, run a temp tower on your filament and see how hot you really need the hotend to be. You may be able to dial back the temps a bit.

I found a really easy way and visual way to do tower temps in Cura but looks like in PrusaSlice I have to do it manually chanching the GCODE?

You can create and save a printer profile with the temp changing gcode done at the start of each layer. I've got some notes on the process here.

I am having good luck with:

  • 0.25mm contact Z distance
  • Rectilinear pattern
  • 3mm pattern spacing
  • 4 interface layers
  • Disable interface loops
  • 75% XY separation

 If the support is wrapped around parts I have to be careful, but it generally peels away cleanly with minimal cleanup required. These supports clean up in a couple of minutes:

So I have to do it manually? there is no other way. To be honest I dont get it so much. I did look around but I am not really good with coding. If you could help me even more in telling me where to start. I would really appriciate it!

I am using the latest firmware and latest version of PrusaSlicer on my MK3S.

I have a small 28mm miniature that requires supports (in any orientation) and has small fragile parts.

I am using a 0.4mm nozzle and starting with the 0.20mm SPEED MK3 print profile (though I have tried others).

Matching advice elsewhere in this forum, I have tried setting Contact Z distance to 0.25, Pattern spacing to 3, and Interface layers to 4. (I have tried other settings that I found on the internet as well.)

In the layer view, I can see the z distance and adjust and notice it, but in the actual print, the model parts still just sits right on top of the supports and 'welds' itself making it almost impossible to remove in some parts, and difficult to remove without breaking things in other areas.

It seems (just by observing the way it prints), that it is ignoring the Contact Z distance.

The print quality underneath is excellent.. for the parts I can get to.

Is there any other setting I can check to make sure that it's not overriding the Contact Z distance?
