Clicking / Clogging - advice?

I'm a new MINI+ user but a happy owner of a few others including a MK3.

I've noticed I have to follow a weird process to get my mini+ ready to print without clicking and clogs.

I have to do the following ...

  • From Cold start with Filament (PLA) installed.
  • Turn the printer on and preheat to PLA, then waitSet Temp of Nozzle to 250/260 C, wait for oozePurge, Purge, purge till I get a flow
  • Print like a happy maker for however long I want with no clicks, clacks or clogs until my printer cools and I go to sleep
  • Then I restart the process again from COLD start

If I don't do this Preheat and Purge from a cold start, I'm guaranteed Clicking and no filament flow or worse.

I've checked the head, heatblock, switched PTFE, set temps to be +5 or +10 degrees in my slicing and more but this doesn't do anything.. except for the above process.Maybe I'm just jaded by my MK3 and ON, START/PRINT functionality..

Is this just me? Can anyone offer advice for a new MINI+ user?

Thanks!

RE: Suggestion

Try these:

If these do not work, consider the Bondtech heartbreak.

RE: cheers

Thanks CW.. I've been through pretty much most of that with either Prusa Support, KBs or Youtube..

everything except the coldpull - which I don't think I need to do after going through the Heatbreak PTFE switch.. and observing the nice clean state of the insides.

yes. I've been looking at a Bondtech Heatbreak and also a dual drive but I want to try and get the most out of what I paid for first.

That's like buying a car only to find out that the Engine is useless and needs to be replaced the second you get it off the lot.

If you only print PLA, at least so far, then clogs indicate that your hotend is not assembled properly. And because you already used temperatures above 250°C, PTFE tube inside heatbreak probably shrunk.. which again, causes additional clogs. So... check hotend, clean it, check PTFE tube length inside heatbreak and replace if necessary. After that, it's just a matter of adjusting extruder filament tension properly.

As cwbullet mentioned.. if you plan to use temperatures above 240°C (PETG, etc) then I recommend Bondtech heatbreak as well.

Re: Clicking / Clogging - advice?

I think this might be my issue when I posted before about having a ruined PTFE between extruder and hotend. I'm going to pull the PTFE that was included and investigate further.

Update..

So I replaced the PTFE tube following instructions.. No change.

Purchased a Bondtech Heat-Break and installed - BAM - My Mini is perfect and operates how I expect it to.

The cherry on the cake was the Bondtech IFS Dual Drive extruder with 4.3.3 Firmware (which enabled me to not have to reverse cables or add extra code)

The difference between my Mini+ now and the unit I purchased is night and day.. I highly recommend both mods and will do so to any Mini Users I encounter.

I'm glad you're happy with Bondtech upgrade. Is not cheap, but is the only long term solution.
