Build Quality Issues??

I ordered my Mini the second day it was available. Didn't start using it until about a month ago because life. In the last week or so the MINDA probe has developed a broken wire so when it's on the left side of the bed it just keeps going up at every probe point. The thermistor for the heated bed is acting up due to a failing cable as well. It loses temp (not really, just reads low) when the front of the bed is about even with the LCD display then recovers immediately when the bed moves out of that range. The temp reading drops by 3-10 degrees then immediately bumps back up to a degree or two over the set point. One of the linear bearings sounds like it's scraping pieces of the rod off when the bed moves quickly despite being properly lubricated. I don't feel like this printer is going to last very long. I see others having some of the same issues but when I contacted the chat support they suggested that my ambient temp was to blame for the bed MINTEMP errors I had also encountered though my room is 65-70F at all times and no other 3D printer I have used in this very room has ever had a bed temp issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent these issues once I essentially rebuild this printer after such a short time running it?

RE: Build Quality Issues??

If you are seeing a mechanical issue, it was addressed in this STL update: https://github.com/prusa3d/Original-Prusa-MINI/blob/master/STL/MINI-heatbed-cable-cover-bottom.stl

However, I have seen this issue happen when I inadvertently had my printer too close to one of my A/C registers, so it is actually a thing for ambient temperatures to disturb a print.

Using PTFE synthetic oil on the bearings and screw has been a god-send, but I suspect it is just a temporary fix for the noise. For lulz, I am going to try some Vesconite bushings to see how long they last in this application. ( https://www.vesconite.com/3d-printer-bushings/ )

@derenma

Thanks for the response and great information. I have been trying to figure out how to download the STL from Git and keep going in circles. What am I missing here? The link you provided shows a nice preview of the part but I don't understand how to get the file. 🙂

Also, I think it's the only part that is not marked with a version number. (F1 or R1) The STL I sent you is actually R2. Since it doesn't have a version on it, there is no way to tell which version you currently have installed on your printer. I would be safe and replace it anyway. I highly recommend PETG for this print since it is attached to the heat bed and would likely deform PLA over time if your bed starts to go higher than 60C. (I am just getting at the temperatures, but you get the idea.)
