Black gunk on nozzle - How to remove

A while back I asked about how to clean my nozzle and I brass brush was recommended. So far that is not helping much and now I have this buildup of black burnt gunk on my nozzle that is dropping down into my prints. Is there some chemical that can remove it. Right now I am mostly printing PLA and PETG.

And brass brush is still my recommendation. I don't know what I may not be working for you. Unload filament, bring the heater block/nozzle to 240 or so, give it a good scrub. You can also remove the nozzle and heat it up with a heat gun and then use the brass brush to clean it. That's what I do between every nozzle change, and my nozzles look like new again.

Now, if you see continuous built-up I would also check that you don't have any filament leaks in the hotend.

Thanks for the reply. I believe I have the problem solved. I was cleaning the nozzle when it was not hot enough.

I pre-heated to 240 and used a knife to scrap off the big globs, then the brass brush to finish it up. It looks much better now.

I'm also going to clean after I'm done printing, so that excess plastic does not build up and burn.

I got a whole bag full of brass brushes from Amazon a while back and I regularly brush off the nozzle prior to doing any print of significance.

I will often preheat the machine to let it stabilize, more so with ABS, but often with PLA or PETg and any filament residue as well as oozing will come off easily when the nozzle is up to temperature.

Glad you figured out how to get that gunk off. I also find that a lowerish temperture (100 for PLA) softens fresh deposits enough to pull them off completely in one strand.
