Prusa CAD?
Prusa has a great lineup of 3d printers. With the mini, mk3, and now the xl, plus the AFS. it seems that they could just keep it there and just have updates from time to time ie(Prusa mini mk2) however I was wondering if there will ever be a "Prusa CAD" I think that an open-source CAD could greatly change 3D printing I know we have free cad but how awesome would Prusa cad be! consider browser-based this could make it even more available to everyone also is it possible to make Prusa slicer browser-based? You could have Prusa printers, Prusa CAD, Prusa Slicer, and Prusa Connect, all together, wouldn't that be awesome? I don't know just some Ideas I had Also, have you thought about moving more production to the US or opening locations there? Prusa maker spaces would be a lot of fun to have all over the world would be cool, you could make that a franchise that way someone could pay let's say $10,000 and open a new location you would give them printers and some other tools and let them use Prusa in the name of there maker space. anyway, I hope these ideas are helpful. I think, it would be great if Prusa build his own CAD Software. Based on Freecad, gnucad, blender or something else. They build great 3D Printer and Slicer Software.

- Slice with Prusaslicer
- print with Prusament
Why not build with Prusacad and expand prusa academy with free and pay Content?

Shudder. Bad idea. 3D design has nothing to do with 3D printing except that a small subset are printed.

I suspect that Prusa would be unwilling to commit the resources, the company seems pretty stressed as it is. One thought though, I see that RS provide for free a tweaked version of SpaceClaim, can't imagine they payed that much royalties.

I have recently been using Freecad and blender. I have found after a little practice there not that hard to use. although I would not be surprised is Prusa "rebranded" one of these programs to finish off their ecosystem. I understand that it may not be the most practical thing though. I will just have to develop a free cad open source package instead.

The logic for branding Slic3r into Prusaslicer and providing tuned profiles is self evident, CAD not so much.

I think they would be better off partnering with a CAD developer to reskin an existing CAD program and maybe add some functionality specific to 3d printing. I'm indifferent to whether it's an open-source or closed-source program, but I would be willing to pay for a Prusa-backed CAD program.
My vote is for Atom3d, but that's my personal bias showing.

While I think Prusa would be successful at anything they decided to do, I would rather they stay focused on their expertise in printers, materials and Prusa Slicer/Prusa Connect Local.
Fusion 360, FreeCAD, Blender and a lot of other amazing products fill in the design side. But that said, if Prusa CAD ever materialized, I'd give it a go. But I hope they stay on the printer side of the fence.

I think is a good idea. I love to see an easy to use application to make 3d parts. That being said, I also agree that not is not the time. Prusa is a little busy.

Prusa Slicer already has some 3d modelling capabilities. If that could be expanded, it could be a one-stop-shop for many users.

Or build a Prusa Workbench for FreeCAD as there is a Slic3r tools workbench. Then there is an all in one package without all the overhead for support of the full CAD software. Or a tool that works with Blender.
Prusaslicer should remain a slicer
Prusa Slicer already has some 3d modelling capabilities. If that could be expanded, it could be a one-stop-shop for many users.
Not a good direction for Prusaslicer. The slicer should focus on slicing and not modelling. There are good CAD/CAM products available. One-stop shopping will lead to a closed ecosystem, which is not a good idea. There a lots of examples of well that worked.

It's already on a slippery slope. Wish more attention was paid to slicer basics rather than fancy additions like text overlays.

If we were voting I'd vote yes. Would be nice to have a one stop/complete package. I think what has been done with Prusa Slicer could be done with a simple CAD software. Start out simple and add functionality in small steps as you go. Maybe one day Slicer will have more simple CAD features..who knows?

Just did a quick test in FreeCAD 0.21 and the Slicr tool box. If I select a file, it will open UltiMaker Cura from the menu. As I said before, just add this feature to FreeCAD and you have all the tools without the headache of developing a CAD program. Now I need to play with it some more.
I did try to reconfigure the workbench to open the Prusa slicer but it didn't work in my quick test and it is late. Should put the question forward on the FreeCAD group in Printables.

It looks like there is some success to use the Slic3r tool box in FreeCAD and call the Prusa Slicer. Needs more work still but quick progress.
