Learning path
Good morning all!
I think it was more than 10 years ago that i did build my first 'Reprap" printer, build from wire threads, nuts and some 3d printed corners. Thick filament, many components from China, End stops with flags....it all seems long ago, but i can still see me sit with my son with open mouth watching the first print results!
Now i own a MK4S and i think i have some experience in printing. What is a challenge however is the software. I do design in Fusion360 but are only scratching the edges of the possibilities. I was frustrated as an example not being able to cut out a color text on the first two layers and get it easy into slicer. The letters were stapeled and in wrong postition. Furthermore is see so many posibilities that Slicer has to offer but... where to start learning the right way? Watching tons of youtubes? Some good some bad?
My question is an advise in learning path how to improve in Fusion360 in relation to 3D printing and where i can find a full tutorial on Slicer 2,9.
Advice welcome and, happy 2025

RE: Learning path
Wow great starting places. Many thanks!
RE:
udemy course when they are on sale, which is every phew weeks/months, so there's a clear learning path as a reference, then add on to that with specialized tutorials
or ask chatgpt for advice
for precise letters in fusion 360, make the letters in a sketch on the bottom plane, extrude as new object for the desired layer height, this will create a new body for each letter going through the object, you can group these for faster selection,
Then use combine tools to cut away the letters from the object, but use the option keep tools to keep the individual letters as bodies,
this will cut away the letters so the individual letter bodies are now slotted inside the object at the bottom
to export all the letter bodies as 1 separate file, you need a workaround in fusion, save your file, make a new file and import the letters from the previously saved file, this will link them in the new file, you can then save the entire file as one mesh, updating the original file will prompt the second file to update the changes.
Export the object with cutout as mesh.
Import both into slicer, if the aligned is of, import as multipart object, and then split them to objects in the slicer.
I use this technique to make letters in different color filament with single extruder mk4, manual filament swap during first layer..
