Improving print speed dramatically in software?
Hi there fellow 3D-printenthusiasts!
Printing may take a lot of time as you all know. While there are many tweaks to improve this I was wondering if there could be a slicing solution that should decrease printing-time a lot. I have no idea about programming so I can't do it myself, but I hope someone will read this and may have a solution:
The thought I have is, since I only need my outer shell to look good, why not use a different layer height for the infill (or even invisible perimeters). For example printing 12 layers at 0.2mm (2,4mm in total) and skipping every second infill layer but increasing layer-height for the infill to 0.4mm and thus reducing infill steps to 6 layers to cover 2.4mm. Of course one has to think about the nozzle diameter for the print height of each layer 😉
The same could be thought of with shells/perimeters that are not visible.
I can imagine that would be difficult to implement but I still think that could be a nice and time-saving feature in a slicer.

Cura has an option for what they call 'spaghetti infill' which is supposed to reduce infill print time. I have never tried it, however.

Yeah thanks for sharing, it was difficult to implement in the beginning, but at the end it was worthy of investing my time. Actually I was planning to do a project which was quite long, and your tips helped me much in speed up the whole process.
