Changing Filament Profile Mid Print

I know how to insert filament color changes in a print, but what if you want to change the actual filament profile? Is that possible?

In my example I have a statue I want to print with a standard PLA black base, but I want to print the upper part using PolyLite PLA Wood, which has a distinct retraction and speed settings from the base. I don't have an MMU, but this seems like something that can be done with out the need of one especially since the changeover occurs at a specific layer. I tried searching for it in the slicer and online but everything I find always comes down to a "color change" tutorial. I have both a Mini and a MK3S+ if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

RE:

Not possible currently.  Unless you sliced it twice with the different filament profiles used and manually cut up and assembled the 2 different gcodes.

You could define 2 extruders so it thinks you have an mmu and then perform a manual filament change.  There are a few threads about doing that on the forum.

Yes! I found this and was able to fumble my way through it. Searching for multiple extruders was the key! Thank you!

So I was able to get the two extruders/materials in, however on my first go I was expecting the printer to pause like it normally does for a color swap. It didn't. On my second run I manually put a color change in thinking that would be what I need. Well, the printer stopped, but it didn't prompt me for the color change like it normally does. I was locked out of the Tune settings to manually trigger a Change Filament event, and all I could do was click Resume, and then quickly go in to the Tune settings to trigger the color change.

I'm thinking there has to be a better way than that? What am I doing wrong? LOL
