Change request regarding prusa link username and password.

Doing a search, it looks like this comes up every few months but nothing has been done. So I would like to add my voice.

The prusa link username is hard coded as maker. And the password is a randomly generated password by the printer. Neither can be changed.

This was only a minor annoyance as prusa slicer would remember the username and password when you went to the physical printer page.

However, since they went to flat pack only for prusa slicer on linux, it no longer remembers the password. Even if you check the box. And I have gone through flat seal and made sure that it has full access to all system files and all user file systems. Yet it will not remember the password.

So I saved a little text file on my desktop with the password, and every time that I need to go to the physical printer page to manage the storage on the printer, I have to open that little text file and copy and paste the password in.

Sure would be nice if I could change the username and password on the printer to something I could remember. And also it would be nice if they would fix this particular bug and prusa slicer.  I reported it when 2.9.0 came out. And now we have 2.9.1 and it's still not fixed.

K.

RE: Change request regarding prusa link username and password.

you MINGT be able to change API key by creating a file named 'prusa_printer_settings.ini` and then uploadig it to the pendrive and plugging it to the printer and doing a reset. While username may still be a 'maker', the api key might be able to be changed,
Not tested.

[printer]
name = My Printer
location = Ceiling

[service::local]
enable = 1
username =
password =
api_key = some-random-16-chars

Also I use flatpak under ubuntu 20.04 (yeah...) it saved the user/pass properly...

Yeah, still painful, so check out my signature, you may find a workaround to access printer without a password from the client side 😉

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.

Really, don't take it the wrong way but it's a bit pointless to post this here as Prusa devs don't hang out in these forums. Here, you're preaching to the choir. The much better place to add your voice, with at least some chance of it actually influencing the development path of the firmware, is the Prusa Github site.

RE:

For what it’s worth, the windows version has started doing the same thing since the upgrade to 2.9.1.  Requires logging in to physical printer every time after I restart PrusaSlicer.  It used to stay logged in.  Stupidly, the Prusa Connect settings page openly displays the PrusaLink API which is the same as the password.  How secure is that?

Prusa reinventing the wheel (networking in this case) and coming up with a polygon, not quite as smooth ... 🙂 (scnr)
