built-in PrusaLink Sidecar extension
Hi there,
Like many Prusa users, I would like to have my:
- Endoscope camera
- USB camera
- SSD disk storage
available from my Raspberry PI for my Prusa MINI+/MK4 etc without still using Octoprint
Since PrusaLink+PrusaConnect is here and it is a native integration from Prusa Company would be nice if the software allowed us to connect a Raspberry PI with some software (as PrusaLink) that has a native connection with built-in PrusaLink through the microUSB port (Prusa Mini+) or a different one for MK4.
For me, this is like a sidecar module extension for the built-in Prusa Link, allowing the community to extend the functionality without overloading the internal memory, storage, etc of the microcontroller of the Prusa Printers.
This is a crazy idea, or this is not possible to realize because of limitations on the integration ports of the printers?
RE: built-in PrusaLink Sidecar extension
Hi, making an Octoprint (admittedly a worse one) from scratch was a lot of work and there is no way a project like that would get greenlit again. Not with the duplication of effort that would take place. Sorry
RE: built-in PrusaLink Sidecar extension
Not sure about MK4 but I find current Mini with web api exposed working very well, without the need to use any special protocols over USB.
You can set up rpi with endoscope and cameras over USB already and use some basic API integration to control the printer or at least send notifications somewhere else.
Why do you need SSD for? Can you provide more use cases of what kind of things you want to do or problems to solve?
See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.
