Add a passwort input field for PrusaLink

Dear Prusa team,

could you please finally change the field for typing the API key in to 'password'?

It's slowly becoming a pain in the butt to enter the key every damn time I open PrusaLink...

And I've seen a post on the forum dating back to last summer and this problem hasn't been solved since then? Come on, you're better than this.

API key and password are two different things. The former is used by applications like Prusa Slicer (e.g. to send print jobs), the latter is used by user for logging into the interface and configuring things (like API keys 😃). The whole point of having API keys is not to give your password to every app that needs something to do with your printer. Why do you feel you need to enter your API key every time you open PrusaLink? For me, it just asked for my password using Basic HTTP Auth the first time I opened the page. I had “Remember my password” checked so it got stored in my browser just like any other password.

Could you elaborate on what you are trying to do, exactly (perhaps in a bit less hostile, passive-aggressive way)?

@stefan-11 are you talking about Prusalink on the Mini?

Yes, it’s just really bothering me to have to re-enter the API key every time I open the PrusaLink page. And I thought that it’ll be better to change the API key input field into a password field (programming-wise) so the browser thinks it’s a password so it can auto-save it.

There's (at least) one open ticket on github (including from yours truly) and it's supposed to be fixed in the next release. It is SUPER annoying. But then again, not as annoying as Minis not being supported by PrusaConnect, which renders it really not fit yet for mixed farm management.

RE:

I agree that it is SUPER annoying.

But I tbh do not use the Prusalink web interface all that much. Prusa Slicer uses the API to directly send the print to the Mini.
And, I am also waiting for the Mini to be supported in Connect.

In the meantime, are you familiar with Home Assistant? That is what I use at the moment to interface with the Mini when I'm not at home.
The Mini API is supported in Home Assistant. So my workflow is:

  • Slice and start the print from Prusa Slicer
  • Use Home Assistant to interface with the Mini remotely.
  • A cheap network camera is sometimes also connected to Home Assistant and pointed at the Mini.
