@pjr

They look great, did you do them ?

Are you a beta tester ?

Out of curiosity, what filament is that and did you use a 0.25 nozzel rather than a 0.4 ??

Cheers

Steve

Yes, yes, cheap Chinese "silk" bronze PLA, 0.4mm at 0.15mm layer height (0.2mm first layer), print time just under 2 hours per sheep (3 hours for the one standing).

   Feeling a bit sheepish 😉
It's hard to tell, but the sheep seem to have fairly noticeable surface artifacts.  It'd be nice to see two sheep side by side: one from the MK3 and one from the mini. Same gcode & filament and all (well, gcode in the sense one is using the MK3 profile and one the Mini profile).

So the review embargo on the beta testers is gone now? When are we going to see the first video reviews? 😛

Yes, some do have the artifacts.  You may know that I use KISSlicer and these are my test prints while dialling in the settings.

I don't have a stand-alone Mk3; only one with MMU2 and both units with development parts.  As far as I can tell, the prints are pretty much equivalent.

I was not aware of any "embargo" on beta-testers.  I guess the video reviews will commence when reviewers get the printers.

Similar to REPLY ALL when you were covertly bcc'd so you'd be 'in the loop' ...  whoops.

RE: Why I'm buying a Mini

I've ordered a Prusa MINI as my first 3D printer for home, because I want a printer that works well and reliably out-of-the-box. Also its much easier and faster to assemble and get 3D prints quickly.

I keep asking support when it will ship as I ordered on October 13th and Im not a very patient person 🙂

I'll try and find a convincing use case for why I ordered mine but for now, "it's soooo cute"  is good enough

I don't currently own a 3D printer and have been waiting years for prices to drop. Seeing prices on the Ender 3 got me doing serious research. After deciding on the MK3S, I spent weeks trying to justify the price. I was hours away from ordering an MK3S when the Mini was announced.

RE: Why I'm buying a Mini

I'm at the other end of the spectrum...   This will be my 10th 3d printer.

  1. Electron 3D i3-Clone Kit(224pc) 200x200x180mm $289.00 Unreliable Jan 2016
  2. Tiko DEAD Kickstarter 125x125x125mm $179.00 Paperweight
  3. Cetus3d Mk1 Kickstarter 180x180x180mm $249.00 Awesome but proprietary
  4. Anet-A3s Ebay 150x150x150mm $274.00 .2mm head for D&D minis - not bad
  5. MP Mini Delta Indigogo 110x110x120mm $279.00 w/Simplify3d Unreliable
  6. Anycubic Photon Ebay 65x115x155mm $391.00 resin D&D minis Awesome
  7. Kudo3D Bean Kickstarter 68x120x150mm $299.00 resin Very good
  8. Eclips3D2 Kit eclips3d.com 200x200x250mm $655.00 Fast reliable large
  9. My own CorSeXY design. 300x300x300mm $1200.00 Proof that I can design something almost as good for double the price - heh
  10. Prusa Mini prusa3d.com 180x180x180mm $395.00

Take it from someone who has been obsessed with these things for 3 years…

A little delay to receive a fantastic 3d printer at an excellent price is nothing.

Your patience will be worth it.

All your filament are belong to us!

RE: Why I'm buying a Mini

I have a MK3s already, but will order a Mini after I see reviews & user feedback. I realize that might mean a long lead-time, but I can wait. This will be for extra capacity & perhaps a second office location. I'll keep the MK3S for larger prints, more filament options, & potential MMU.

Whatever you find to do with your hands, do with all your might!

@frankincell

I feel your pain.  I will have 7 printers.  Fortunately or unfortunately, only 6 work.

RE: Why I'm buying a Mini

Hi, i'm fresh here, and also fresh in 3d printing. About five-six years ago I have designed some parts for printing in external company, when I had to send STL-s and sometimes had to rework printed parts on a lathe or mill. That was my last experience with 3dprint.

Now I camp at antarctic station and our institute has purchased i3 mk3 with multimaterial (we don't know why, ut we will play with it in winter time - april to november). Fantastic machine. Started to work just after assembly and helps us a lot, making spare parts for machines and gadgets for tourists. Institute has purchased Prusa because our IT/CNC guy recommended it as reliable and affordable. He was right. This is our orange beauty, printing holders for extinguishers:

I'm considering purchase of Prusa just at a day when I leave Antarctica, to have it arrived in home when I return 🙂 I don't know Mini or i3. Mini has enough build volume for my needs. What would I miss the most when changing from i3 to Mini? Rigidity, Print quality, "rubber" materials, accuracy of Direct? Is Mini faster than i3 when printing?

We don't have "rubber" filaments (only PLA and PET-G prusaments) and I haven't even opportunity to touch "printed rubber"so I don't know if this possibility is worth considering as anything more than curiosity.

Antarctic station? Really? Wow. I wanna hear more, that could be great story.

RE: Why I'm buying a Mini

Oh, patience please. Today we have 15m/s wind and some work to do. Our satellite internet connection also isn't what we are familiar on civilized land. I can write in i3 forums, something like "antarctic use case". Here I ask maybe not about main differences between Mini and i3, but about main "difficulties" and cons if I buy Mini after a year of using i3 mk3s.
