Yup that's exactly what I did.  Keep reading and looking at videos on how to calibrate and get everything set top correctly . I also ordered both sheets so hopefully I will be prepared for when the printer shows up!

And now PR has learned their lesson...  Which is to delay our orders until we all spend $400 extra. 🤣

so how many Oct 13 orders got shipped by the 31st Jan?

my colleague ordered 1 hour before me on the 13th and his shipped Thursday morning.. but mine still not.

i know Prusas objective was to get all Oct 13 orders out by the 31st Jan so was mine just a one off or did they miss this target on mass?

I ordered on Oct 13 heard nothing yesterday. Just now I contacted support and was told: "seems like there was a small problem with your particular order, but I'll fix that soon and it should ship early next week 🙂 hopefully by Monday."

The order is complex and depends on shipping days and what all is ordered.  This is conjecture and based on what I have seen one the tarcker and forum.

Factors:

  1. Color of the printer: Orange is more common and I suspect they print in batches.  If you order black and they print a black kit, you might be lucky and get one or of order.
  2. What else did you order?:  Some items may take time to fill and orders wait till filled.  If they run out of your filament choice, they seem to push the order.  This was reported on another thread.
  3. Delivery method: I have not looked at this but it was mentioned on this thread.  But it makes sense because of shipping in batches based on days when the shipper arrives.
  4. Storage space is not free or unlimited.  Built printers and parts can quickly overwhelm storage capacity.

I racked my brain trying to figure this out over the last month.  I would not put a lot of time into it.  I talked to a friend that owns a fabrication business that ships all over the globe.  He confirmed to me similar things in his own business.

They own huge storage building. Storage will not be an issue right now.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and perfect my MINI ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Storage is always an issue.  I have a 40-60 foot storage building.  I do not own a corporation or large business.  It is full.

I will be one of the first in line for the XL.  I have a huge need for a reliable larger printer.

I could be talked into an XL if there will be a dual extruder option.

Whatever you find to do with your hands, do with all your might!

Dual extruder FTW. 100% agree.

I would not read into the ones from the 12th.  The MK3 sheet has a small portion that could have been as high as 10 percent that did not update the spreadsheet after adding their order.  Some cancel and do nto remove their order.

Exactly, I'm assuming that all those orders have shipped, and that about 10% of the orders people didn't update.

Nope, that is definitely not the case. I ordered on the Oct 12. Order number 40703. Has not been shipped yet. Several weeks ago chat told me it would ship within a week. Yesterday, chat said it might ship next week. I ordered black parts with both sheets and the filament sensor. Also, in late December I ordered some parts for the MK3S (complete hot end, fan, bed thermistor, etc.) I waited for several weeks on that order before contacting them and they said they were still working on the backlog. I ended up cancelling the parts only order and just got some parts from Amazon instead. I had not checked this thread for a long time and was surprised to see what looks like the assumption all of the Oct 12 orders are shipped. I have no idea the logistics at Prusa, but it does not seem very organized.

I wish they would either hire a temporary staff that would be able to handle a rush of orders at announcement, or at the very least change the way they charge for orders and only charge once the order has been shipped like every other online business.

Can anyone who has received a mini from the new batch of printers confirm if the problems that plagued the first generation have been fixed? Disappointed with the reviews I’m reading and considering cancelling.

Customer service has also told me they are strict about shipping the minis in the order they were placed but after reading these posts that also seems to be a lie.

First time ordering a prusa printer and I’m fine waiting but not being lied to and sold a subpar product. I get that some feel this is part of the “prusa experience” but I agree with the other comments that they should only be taking our payments on shipment.

I'm not normally the voice of sanity but .................... read on !!

I was lucky enough to order my Mini very early and got my 'first batch' Mini at the end of last year

They were/are not as bad as the 'hype' on here would have you beleive.

To start with, i have never had, or printed with any 3d printer before, so complete newbie.

I paid attention to what early users were saying, i printed a few 'mods' (electric box lid, Minda saver etc) and fitted them.

Yes they are 'querky' and the firmware is a little 'iffy', but with a little care, they work just fine.

These were my very first prints ...

I then printed all the parts (including an extractor fan) for a LACK enclosure

Doubtless a few of my problems were 'newbie' related, but i love this machine and with care they work just great.

I have recently even printed parts at 0.7 layer hight

and i'm making toys for my grandkids

Think twice before deciding against a Mini, yes mine was first batch and yes, i'm sure they will improve.

But at the moment, they are perfectly usable machines

RE: Unofficial Prusa Mini Wait Thread

Just a heads up for me. After being told they were on track to ship my order by the 31st it has not shipped yet. I actually tried to buy an older style MK3 when the upgraded one came out and was told 2-4 weeks delivery. 8 weeks later I cancelled the order and decided now just wasn’t the time to get into the hobby. I’m still traveling for work right now but if the Mini isn’t out the door by the time I get home I’m switching to a MK3 at a minimum. Maybe even just moving to another product.
I want Prusa’s product and reputation behind it. But as somebody who works for a manufacturer you cannot set an expectation and then not meet it and stay silent. They should have just stayed quiet until they were mass shipping and then said oh guess what here’s yours” to people and nevertheless promised a timeline if they couldn’t meet it.

I realise that somebody will say I'm a "FanBoy" of Prusa but this seem like common sense. Robert if you feel that "... they should only be taking our payments on shipment." then don't do it. This is a community forum so expressing your unhappiness  with Prusa is a pointless and counterproductive.

RE: Unofficial Prusa Mini Wait Thread

@towlerg: I wouldn’t say you are a fan boy. I know the brand is good, and to a certain extent waiting for it is to be expected. You’re right in that you could just go and buy something else, but Prusa’s marketing at launch was “end of nov” that’s over a month of orders paid up front on that expectation. If they started at the beginning with “we don’t know when this will ship but we wanted to open it up for pre-orders” people would probably be a lot more understanding on here. Now they are projecting orders out to May 2020 though if you get in line though. So far they have slowly crept that timeline up after not meeting the previous one, that isn’t good. Under promise, over deliver. If we base the May estimation for orders placed so far, people who ordered in the first week should be expecting middle of March. That’s the same gap from starting shipping in December as if you just placed an order today for delivery into May. So we may potentially get a product in the next few weeks, but it could also be another 4-6 weeks. Had I known day 1 that this would be the potential timeline I’d have gotten a MK3 or maybe a Creality CR-10S even in November and have been printing for months. Companies that don’t meet expected deadlines do not stay in business for very long, and that’s worrying as a consumer because part of this product’s appeal is the company standing behind it so well.

@towlerg

Your point is taken, but the first half of my comment was simply a question asking for an update on print quality (which I thank Steve for quickly answering my calming my concerns). As an outsider to this community, my intention is not to disturb the echo chamber, but I also think it is fair to put my frustrations into context. I have seen many others on this sub (including long term members) posting similar frustrations. I was also not the first to post regarding the early payment criticism, and I was only agreeing with another poster. Plus if you look at the last 15 (or more?) pages of this thread, it can be summed up as a list of complaints and non-Prusa related matters.

I'm with you, just because this is a community Forum for Prusa users doesn't mean one shouldn't civilly express criticism for things that deserve criticism. An echo chamber with no criticism allowed isn't something that anyone should strive for.

@michael-w51

It's a learning experience for them.  They've never sold a printer this inexpensive before so it kind of makes sense that the demand far exceeded expectations.  I really doubt they'll be out of business because of it. Even  Google ran into this with the original Nexus 7 tablet.

I'm not sure about anyone else but this is kind of the norm to me.  I'm an early adopter and am typically signed up for multiple pre-orders(laptops, phones, and other tech I don't really need).  I hardly ever see something launch on time.

The only oddity with PR is they actually went out of their way to map out a delivery schedule based on order date.  Usually manufacturers keep that crap to themselves so they don't disappoint.
