@clemens-m

In the community maintained spread sheet (listed bellow) there were 118 shipped / delivered orders, and there are now 3 more. There's a tab called Summary where you can follow up the aggregated numbers.

Thanks, this spreadsheet I know. I thought there is another "official" source of information. So you download the spreadsheet at different times / dates, compare them and as a result see the progress of Mini´s shipped.

Best regards,

Honestly, what do you expect after 50+ pages of thread full of people frustrated from waiting? 😀

Well, it reminded me to get a fire extinguisher. My policy is to never print unattended, after I lit some filament to see what happens. It burns REALLY well. Normal consumer/industrial plastics contain fire retardants which are very effective, 3DP filament does not. I wouldn't trust fire detection/suppression methods unless tested regularly.

I would take the spreadsheet a bit loosely, I'll bet there are many people playing with their new toy instead of updating a spreadsheet they have probably forgotten about. 🙂

Well, this setup will be testable. I just unplug the FP-20 unit and connect a LED. If the LED will light up, the system works fine. If the power to the printer shuts off, the system works fine. The manufacturer of the FP-20 seems proffessional enough to trust their claim that the system has 15y lifespan. It's for professional use, not home use. It's not one of the fireballs or this sort of device. Seems trustworthy.

Are you planning to use this device in an enclosure?

if so, have you addressed pressure management on discharge? otherwise you may be building a small bomb!  8-(

You're forgetting that you're planning to rely on home automation to trigger the extinguisher. I have enough experience with systems like openHAB, HA, etc. to guarantee you that you shouldn't. Be it a corrupted sd-card or something else, it will inevitably fail at some point.

On topic, since chat support was closed and no new shipments have been done by PR could it be that they are taking the time to look at the things they can alter to improve the machine? the Firmware team is busy on github fixing things (i've seen good things that were reported here on the forum being pushed into the next release) Give them time to look at the MINDA stuff and then continue shipping... Personally I rather have a perfect machine then a machine were I have to wait again to have it fixed.

You asked "what do you think". Invariably when people say that, what they really mean is "please just agree with me, I have already made up my mind".

If you are happy, then that is fine, but if you ask what I think, I think your risk assessment and test strategy is inadequate.

Normally I try to avoid off-topic, fire safety really deserves it's own thread. Having been around 3DP for a decade or so, I've seen enough people doing normal 3DP things and finding out the hard way how quickly a fire takes hold, "Lucky to be alive" is one quote.

Home automation is fine for setting the thermostat or turning lights on, I wouldn't use it for anything safety critical.

Good point.  Mine is in an enclosure.  I might have to look at one of the server rack extinguishers.  I think they take that into account.

RE: Unofficial Prusa Mini Wait Thread

I didn't order a Mini initially which now seems like a double edged sword. On one hand the obvious stock faults will no doubt be rapidly resolved and on the other, if I order now it's unlikely to be delivered before the summer. I'd like to play with a printer now so I'm looking looking for suggestions of an alternate.

My requirements are

a. not a kit ala Mk3 but part broken down (Mini, Ender3 etc.)  is fine.

b. shipped from within the EEC (really don't want hassles with customs)

c. build area similar to Mini

d. price similar to Mini

Currently looking at Artillery Genius or Ender3+++ . Any user experience of these or other candidates much appreciated.

The Artillery Genius ships with a clone Volcano hotend, which is not necessarily a bad thing. If you wanted the Mini for fine prints, be aware that nozzles smaller than 0.40mm may be hard or impossible to find for the stock configuration.

Look at the Sovol SV01. It has a direct drive extruder and is often described as the upgrade the Ender 3 Pro should have been.

The Kingroon is surprisingly good for a cheap tiny printer.

I would not recommend any of these instead of the Mini, but if you're going to buy a cheap, poorly supported clone that will require lots of upgrades and fiddling, these are the ones I'd consider.

@bobcousins

I didn't say I'm using home automation for for security. I use camera to see how's the print going and the wifi switch to be able to switch the power off if necessary. But the security part is handled by regular smoke detector and a professional fire supressant. The power will be cut off by the same smoke detector switching bi-stable relay in off state. No fooling around with "smart" devices.

@bobcousins

I'm happy with my solution unless people point me to a better solution. Being close to the printer when it prints is the main approach towards safety, but I'm trying to come up with a solution that lets me leave the printer alone sometimes. I was afraid I'm just overexaggerating the problem as I have no real experience with 3DP. I'm glad you see the danger even bigger then I do. I'll take it as a good advice.

@charles-h13

It's used in server racks (as few youtube videos show)

@joantabb

The box will not be airtight. The activation of the extinguisher is not of explosive manner. It releases the aerosol for 5 - 10s. They use it in closed server racks.

So, communicate that.  Since they accepted my payment, last decade, Prusa has sent no updates.  Just communicate.
