RE: Unofficial Prusa Mini Wait Thread

Ordered a Mini yesterday, my very first Prusa machine 😀
Just hoping the Bowden setup won't get me the same problems as my current printer does (a shitty Anet A8) with oozing and stringing all over the place...

@andre

The stringing is not the Bowden setup.  It may take some adjusting to avoid stringing with some filaments.  Adjustments are easier in my book with a Prusa.

I wouldn't think so. The profiles by Prusa Research are very decent in my eyes.

Ordered mine like, others on the thread it's my first 3d printer. I was hesitating on the MK3 but this price point is good for me. Reckon it's a good first printer based on Prusa's reputation.

The price is absolutely fantastic.  I will buy another if not a few more as my business and hobby expand.

I was sooooo close to buy one but my wife talked me out of it. Maybe will get one in February/March once the firmware left the alpha status 😋

@nikolai-r

Ordered the Mini today!!

It will be my first 3D printer as I have no idea when I will receive the IVI 3D printer.

@tom-6

Welcome to the community. I have MK3s+MMU2s and MK2.5, so it’s kind of different decision to make 🙂

I'm tempted with the mini too. I have an MK3S with the Bear structure. I like to design, test and print everyday objects to solve problems or improve objects, but I don't like to spend time in maintaining the printer. Perhaps, this mini Prusa is the most logical selection for my profile.

But I don't want two printers in my house (I want peace in my marriage 😉). Does anyone want a Prusa MK3 with bear frame in Barcelona?

Sorry for my poor English. I try to do my best.

I ordered one and am looking forward to it.  It will be in addition to the two I3s that I currently own.  I am planning to put a smaller diameter nozzle into it and have a go at printing miniatures with it.

I just wish that an assembly manual was available so that I could start looking over it now!

I just wish that an assembly manual was available so that I could start looking over it now!

According to the announcement blog, the assembly is quite straight forward. It is shipped in 3 parts (y-axis/bed assembly, z-axis/x-axis assembly, display assembly). Just attach those three parts together and you should be ready to start initial calibration. They estimate full assembly from unboxing to first print to be 15-30 minutes. (I don't know how much of that time is allocated to savoring gummy bears.) 😉

From the Twitter thread about Mini, a mini package of gummy bears will be shipped with Mini, because, well, it's a smaller printer. I presume it's those small packages of small candies, like this. Those should not take very long to eat.

(Then one also has to ask what package will XL come with - there are 1 kg and 3 kg packages available ... that's A LOT of bears.)

I would probably need the 3kg of gummy bears as a peace offering to my wife when she spots the XL on the credit card statement 😉

@olef

I agree, there are several surface mount resistors on the SparkFun that are not on the Prusa version.

That's good to know that the assembly won't be as involved as the MK3's procedures. Gummies aren't such a concern as the local grocery store carries them in all sizes, including a great huge bag.

Harribo in the US is just not the same.  NASTY.

You will get the best HaRiBo quality in the outlet store in Bonn, at their headquarters. They also have "big" boxes of 1-5 kg. We've a customer there, so we always detour on our commute back and load up. Yet I can feel you, just looking at an empty 1,3 kg "Kiddies Big Box" at my desk.

I agree, there are several surface mount resistors on the SparkFun that are not on the Prusa version.

The ESP-01 is a more limited version with 512 or 1024 MBit flash and cost approx. 2,5 USD including shipping from China to mostly everywhere on the planet. There exist different revisions, but they all are pin-compatible, so all can be used. I also hope for endusers, that the modules can be used without flashing them with a custom firmware. You need at least an Arduino (compatible) board, some wires and a good tutorial if you're not familiar with programming stuff with it.

If the time comes, I can assist in that. I'm using ESPs for several years now and they are really nifty little devices that are present in many IoT devices like smart wall plugs, light bulbs and many more.
