@john-m30

I have had similar experiences.

The only non-Prusa printer I have considered recently is a HyperCube Evolution.

Indeed! I saw a similar x-in-1 setup with a robotic arm a while ago in kickstartet, looked also very nice.

I was under the impression that the Mini was supposed to be shipping by now. I was wrong.

Since the schedule has slipped to April 2020 or so, i'll cancel the order and go for an Ender. 😪

The April delivery date in the shipping table is for only orders placed today, it does not indicate a date for orders already in the queue.

RE: Unofficial Prusa Mini Wait Thread

You know, I am fine waiting until February for this printer, heck even late March!  But there is an interesting reason for it, and that is the quality of what we are getting.  Unlike my recent experiences with the Ender 3 and the Tronxy X1.  The Tronxy X1 was my first 3D Printer, and I picked it up because I wanted to learn in depth everything about 3d printing, which I did.  However after 3 weeks the motherboard shorted out and now I am sitting on a pile of parts, waiting for another upgrade.  The Ender 3 belongs to my friend, and after working with him to get it running it printed wonderfully and then promptly failed, with the part not sticking to the bed.  I was so tired of cheap printers breaking down, I just wanted one to work on me.

So here I am, keeping my pre-order, even though I am expecting to wait until march for my order (placed November 11).  I wait because I know the quality, respect the brand, and support what they do.  I thought I would share my short story with ya'll and express my excitement for this printer.  I think its going to be a real good one.

Cheers!

Hmm I wonder if you could convert the ender or Tronxy to a Prusa

You could create a FrankenPrusa...       but it would never be an origninal prusa...

Tom Sanladerer has done a prusa clone using a different controller board... but it would not run Original prusa firmware directly.

do the nominated printers have the 16 tooth belt pulleys for X & Y? and the same Z axis lead screw pitch?
they do not have the Prusa Mk2 Hobbed gear, or the Prusa Mk3 Bondtech gear, so the E steps would have to be adjusted, anyway

It's likely the nominated printers don't have programmable motor current capability on the controllers.  and they won't normally have the correct build plate dimensions and sense points...

there are lots of differences that would need to be addressed

It would take a lot of work, and expense, probably best not trying to re invent the wheel!

isn't ender3 Bowden feed extruder?

Good points.  I am converting mine to direct drive currently.  I have had less than a couple decent prints.  Terrible printer.

People tell me (and really themselfs) that it is ok to wait almost half a year, and pay in advance, even though shipping was promised to be only a few weeks away.

I wouldn't mind waiting some time, but this is getting laughable. There is no definitive shipping date. Do you guys really think they ship in march/april? The date has slipped before, multiple times, and it will slip again.

I want a printer to 3d print, it doesn't have to be an "Original".

Tom Sanladerer has done a prusa clone using a different controller board... but it would not run Original prusa firmware directly.

So he used different hardware that couldn't run the proprietary firmware? Who would have thought. 😉

It's likely the nominated printers don't have programmable motor current capability on the controllers.  and they won't normally have the correct build plate dimensions and sense points...

And yet they 3d print. You sound like an Apple fanboy saying all the other mobiles are worthless because you can't connect to iCloud or any other proprietary feature by Apple.

isn't ender3 Bowden feed extruder?

So is the Mini. Which i ordered 2 month ago, but can't get until march/april (an estimation that is not definitve but will probably slip again).

Most people don't care if it's "Original", they want a 3d printer. I am one of those. Yesterday i ordered two Ender 3 , they will be here before christmas for the kids. Saved money too.

Just in case i seem to be a bit heated up, i'm not mad at you, i'm mad at Prusa. 😳

I suspect that people on this board may appear to be "apple fanboys" because they've owned other brands and been burned.

Sure you can take an Ender3 and make it as good as a Prusa but how much effort and cost? (although your still left with a slightly wobbly bed).

What chance of upgrade kits to the latest model? Hey, why not give Creality support a call?

@towlerg I think it's all up to personal preference. Some have the printer as their hobby, others need the parts from the printer for their hobby. A bit like car/bike enthusiasts - some are keen to have fixed/improved/restored something; others are keen on driving.

You do not have to be insulting.  That is just being a jerk.  I am a fan of Prusa, you do not need to equate a person who loves the quality of a printer with a bunch of groupies that do drugs and follow a band.

I tried for 2 months to get my stock Ender-3 to print.  It failed time and time again.  I added the mods to make it "just as reliable as a Prusa".  Heck, I spend enough to buy another Prusa.  It failed none-the-less.  Compared to a Prusa, the ender is a Yugo.  No offense to the current country but that was a jalopy.  It is a piece of junk.

@joantabb

I build a clone that runs the firmware.  It does have a knock off extruder and hot-end.  It uses an Einsy Board from Prusa.  It works well, bt the specs are the same from the start.

Firmware is available at https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware This one obviously works with stock Prusa, but many people modify their printers which includes height, gearing ratios if they use different extruder etc. It means then they have to take the firmware, change what's needed in source code and compile it with their settings.

So is the Mini. Which i ordered 2 month ago, but can't get until march/april (an estimation that is not definitve but will probably slip again).

Just to clarify something that people seem to misread: those estimated delivery dates on shipping table page are for NEW orders that are placed AT/AFTER the date the page had been updated. Date of update is right under the title. If you ordered in October, you'd have received your printer in January (maybe December if it was on 12th); those who ordered in November look like they will get it in February, and December orders will go out in March/April (very rough estimation).

Enjoy your Enders. Check which revision it is and known issues with it, especially pay attention to those that compromise safety (power connectors, solders, thermal runaway protection). There are quite large communities on Reddit (r/ender3) and Facebook that will help you if you have issues.

Wow .. a lot of people have already pointed out to you that the information you call shipping table is for new orders, not the ones already in progress and if the start shipping tomorrow, they are just 10 days late.

If you wan't to go with a printer that works somewhat, because you don't want to wait a few days, that's your problem. Don't say you have not been warned to step into the same pitfalls we already know the printer has. I feel sorry for your kids that they will get something that works somewhat, but not continuously and needs a lot of tweaking, resetting, readjusting etc. to get something out of it. Especially for kids, you want something that works out of the box and is not a fire hazard.

Not wishing to pile on (but I'm going to)

"So he used different hardware that couldn't run the proprietary firmware? Who would have thought."

Why the sarcastic surprise? The fact that different hardware needs different software should hardly come a bolt from the dark. Prusa firmware is not proprietary, compilable source is published (couldn't be open source if they didn't), something which Creality did only recently. Heck it's all Marlin anyway.

BTW Shock horror, Ender3 firmware won't run on a A10.
