RE: Unofficial Prusa Mini Wait Thread

So if I ordered one on Oct 14th, is the expected ship date now February?

No, it means if you ordered one today that’s when it will likely ship.

Though October 14 is technically after the launch weekend, so I’d say you’d be lucky If it ships before Christmas.

@marcins

That is conjecture.  I would wait till we start seeing the shipments before we assume delivery dates.

Which part? The Prusa shipping table now says “late Feb” for new mini orders.

For the 14th, yes, pure speculation. I ordered on the 14th too, and would love to get it by Christmas - but personally that’d be a bonus not an expectation.

He interpreted the same that I did.  I understood you saying that orders may ship in February.  I think you will likely get news in a week or so on shipping dates.

I think Prusa will do everything they can to start shipping by the 30th Nov as promised, even if it is only the first ten orders. Judging on previous product releases I fully expect the first despatches by the end of next week. Fingers crossed!

RE: Unofficial Prusa Mini Wait Thread

Has anyone noticed the shipping details on the Mini have subtly changed now? Originally I am certain in the eshop it stated that shipping would commence by the end of November. That appears to have changed -

PRE-ORDER! Production starts by the end of November 2019, shipping limited amounts in December 2019, most orders to be shipped in January and February 2020.

It now states "Production starts by the end of November" - it no longer states shipping will commence. Even worse it carries on with "shipping limited amounts in December"

Just checked the Wayback Machine and it confirms that on Nov 12th -

PRE-ORDER! Shipping will start by the end of November 2019

Based on the mentioned sales figures of around 1300+ on the release day, does this indicate the even the day 1 sales will not ship before the Christmas break?

Maybe the found an issue they are needing to tweak? Maybe they just stuffed up by dropping the original wording. Who knows!

It seems that we will see Minis on ebay for 500$+ in the next 3 months... 🙃

Come on guys, increase the production to prevent this!

I don't think so, apparently it's normal at Prusa.
Same with the MK2, MK3 and MMU2.

Don't understand why they don't first take stock before they even bring it out and turn on pre-order. Do not know any company that does this in such a way as Prusa does now.

PR is trying to grow naturally and doing in-house as much as possible. The whole production/QA process is in-house. The whole fulfillment process is in-house. Most of the companies would do it externally for such a fast increasing demand. But this is the reason why PR is most of the fastest growing tech companies in the last years.

@dennis-s12

It is becoming more and more common for companies to take pre-orders before they have entered production. I suspect it’s because Kickstarter got people used to putting down money early to hold a place in like for a popular product. Tesla, like many car companies, has done this as well - that way they can generate excitement and lock in customers early, and it can help them align production to demand. The down-side, of course, is that it forces the production process to be transparent. If you don’t take pre-orders, when schedules slip (and they usually do) nobody knows outside of the company and investors.

One thing that kind of makes me a little upset is that they indicated that they were hoping to meet demand this time and I did not hear them call it a preorder this time.  I would like to see them clarify more during the ramp up.

I’m all for that as long as they keep people in the loop.

I would be cool with an additional delay as long as it was explained, it would be no probs.

The change in shipping is a disappointment for most of us but if they further clarified the change I would be ok with it.

That's unfortunate, but it's the reality of high-demand items and common with supply and demand. High-demand items must often be reserved in advance and pre-payment is common even with much more expensive products. Good luck.

To an amount, yes: if P/R has paid pre-orders for 15k Minis, then they're able to finance the ramp up of the Mini's mass production interest free, as well as other activities like order fulfilment. Why they have so many value creating activities inhouse - I don't know. It definitely helps them to be more independent, and grow faster organically.
