Two VERY simple ideas for a better Mini2

Hi Guys,

having used my Prusa Mini+ for almost a year now, I have two very simple and doable suggestions for the next Mini printer if/when it gets released.

As Prusa does not have a suggestion box that I could find, it goes here.

Take it or leave it. 🙂

1) There is no real reason that I could see why the electronics box should be at the rear quarter of the printer.

Turning the printer off/on or inserting / removing a USB drive means you have to reach around and under the filament tube to the back looking for the switch/socket. There is no real reason why the electronic box cannot be at the front quarter, just under where the display is. If it is there, you need not to do the reachy aroundy.

Yes, the power cable would have to under the Z axis, but that is nothing...

2) There is also no real reason why the extruder has to be behind the Z rail. To load the filament, or to sort out a bad filament, you have to look and manoeuvre yourself over and behind the printer. If the extruder and the X axis motor swapped places, then this would be so much simpler and easier to load filament. Both the X axis and the extruder need power, so the cable guidance would be the same.

Its two very simple changes that could really make life a lot simpler. IMHO 🙂

As an aside; why does the filament sensor have to hang on the end of the filament tube like a dead cat? Why cannot it be attached to the extruder itself, and the long tube can go from that sensor housing?

Thanks for listening 🙂

Nothing wrong with any of your suggestions. In the meantime while we're waiting with bated breath for a Mini 2, there are options for relocating the power switch and USB port to the front: https://www.printables.com/model/67778 which is a lot more convenient.

That is cool!

I might try that!

I would guess a mini 2 is last on the list. The XL should be with us soon so I am sure that is taking up a lot of resources. We had a questionnaire recently about the i3 so my guess would be that is the next target for upgrade. Probably needs it as the competition has heated up.
