RE: Welcome to our new forum! Feedback here!

Oh well, I guess we’ve all ended up on Joe’s naughty list this year... No fix for the redirect of email notifications to the Czech forum for us... Let’s hope that after Christmas the Prusa engineers can figure it out.

Merry Christmas, y’all!

RE: Welcome to our new forum! Feedback here!

Here's a strange issue I just noticed.

Early this morning I posted a message in the thread below regarding joining two items in the slicer and printing as one.  The time on that message is 6:47am local time, which I think is about the time I made that post.

Some time later I posted a follow-up with some photos.  The time that showed as the post time of the follow up is 6:58am.  The thing is, it was over three hours between posts.  I made the second post at about 10:30am local time.

Here's the thread in question.

RE: Welcome to our new forum! Feedback here!

welcome to the forum - where every email notification is a role of the dice if you get a usable link (in favor of the PR house) today I've gotten 60 email from PR with 50 links (empty) that point to the main forum. within the 50 links some of them point to the same thread where some of them point  to the right place and most of them not... with 50 mail I have stopped looking for the questions/or answers (sorry) the search function is also not very helpful. It is clear that the best programmers work at the firmwares [is good] but the forum looses it charm it has started to be an annoyance

I have deactivated all subcriptions 2 days ago and I still receive messages which almost without exception point to the czech forum main page.
The system is hopelessly overloaded and I have not received any replies to inquiries about this.

Please do not, it is a valuable source of information with small broken parts they just meet to fix the issues

RE: Welcome to our new forum! Feedback here!

This forum, and the software that runs it, is the absolute worst there is -- -- except for all of the others.  😉

Seriously, there are some issues, and I'm afraid that such things as forum bugs are rather low priority on the list of things to be done by Prusa's on-the-clock technical talent.

Now that's not saying that another independent forum might be useful.

My hunch about this one is that it suffers from cumulative additions and mods, many of which are poorly documented and understood.

One suggestion might be to open-source the Forum and let the techie community have at it.

Forum technical issues

Stay calm and carry on!

People - I know the technical issues the forum is having at the moment are annoying. But I also know that sometimes these technical issues can be difficult to resolve (especially when a lot of people are breathing down your neck and yelling "Fix this now!"

It's useful to mention these technical issues on the forum so that Prusa can be aware of them and make corrections, but it really doesn't help to just complain without contributing additional useful diagnostic information. 2020 has been a stressful enough year already, and I'm thinking that if this is the worst problem in my life right now I should be pretty happy.

I'm confident that these issues will be corrected soon enough, so I for one am going to sit back and let the tech people get to work.

Hope everyone has a good New Year.

I got curious and poked around a bit.

Looks like this forum is based on this: https://wpforo.com/

The mentioned issues are there from the beginning. Looks like there is no dedicated developer assigned to fix existing issues and implement new useful features. Like limiting recent/unread filter to your language only. Including images/videos/files is always a gamble. Sometimes it works correct (or if you follow a strict rules which I always forget).

All this small inconveniences are leading to less people providing support.  At least I'm using this forum less then the old one.

Personally all I want is to be acknowledged that my issues are known (and preferably  get a ballpark figure when it is going to get fixed) the only acknowledgement I have gotten is from other users having the same issues

RE: Welcome to our new forum! Feedback here!

For my part, the problems have already been forwarded to Prusa several times. I have never received any feedback.
One could at least respond with a standard message, such as "sorry, we are working on it" or similar.

@jsw

I think you might be right that looks a lot like a third-party plug-in on which Prusa can't screw a lot.

LOL, I haven't seen a Wordpress plugin yet that could not be hacked.  😉

They are usually PHP scripts.  That, of course, is a double-edge sword, as various PHP interpreters are known to be buggy, and PHP code, of course, can be buggy and difficult to debug.

When I need something to do, I'll download the wpforo plugin and take a look at it.

RE: Welcome to our new forum! Feedback here!

For those who care, I downloaded the wpforo plugin and did a quick look-see.

As I suspected, it's all very dense .php code with very few comments.

The file emails.php has almost no comments (LOL, except at the top, code to abort if run stand-alone)  😉 but does have several 'new_post_notification_email' items within it.  If I were the one debugging this (which I am not, thank @diety) I would start there and walk through the code and get an idea of what it's supposed to do.

Now, for a programmer or admin who might find a 'fix it' request on his/her do-it list, it's probably gonna be several hours of grunt-work debugging and testing! No sexy dragging and dropping, just hardcore codewalking, mostly uphill!  😉

How do you insert images in a comment?  I get a dialog asking for image "source".  Does it want a URL?  Can't I just upload an image from my PC?  If not, why not?
