Prusa mini not on thingieverse?

Hey there.

I was wondering how new printers are added to the list on thingieverse? When I design things or make things, or list printers on my profile, the mini isn't listed under the prusa brand.

Best Answer by Tracy:

I requested months ago on thingiverse to have the Mini added. They ignored me. So now I select Other and enter Prusa Mini.

Hello and welcome to the Prusaforum!

What exactly do you want to do? Do you want to upload your own constructions to Thingiverse?

Yeah that's what I do too. Oh well. Where is it you request this btw?

It's just that it's not listed as a printer under the Prusa brand on thingiverse:

Is it really that big a deal? I've honestly not had any issues printing anything on my mini that I have pulled off there, other than sometimes the parts are in a non-optimal position when loaded into prusa slicer. After playing with the printer a bit you'll figure out what orientation prints best and usually just a matter of flipping the part by 90 or 180 degrees. Exception would be parts that are meant to be laser/cnc cut. Really not that hard to identify those just by looking at the pictures.

Even if it existed I probably wouldn't use such a filter, just to miss out on something I am looking for cause someone didn't tag it as printable on the mini.

@mikkel

Thingiverse.com was not a decision criterion for me when buying the printer, as I rarely use it and create my own designs.
I suppose it is only a matter of time before the Mini will be added to the list of popular printers.
There are many other good sources, like grabcad.com or the Prusa prints https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints?categoryId=1&page=1

what did you choose as alternative?

Thingiverse is owned an operated by Ultimaker, a Prusa competitor. I wouldn't put too much value on their opinion of what is and isn't a significant product from a competitor.

Not at all important. I'd just like to accurately note what printer I've used when posting things 🙂 I've been printing since 2011. I don't intend to use it as a filter or anything.

It's not. It's owned by Makerbot, and I don't see why you're assuming they'll refuse to put a printer on there just because of that. Their list of printers is huge as is. Not everything has to be a team-sport :/

It wasn't a factor at all for me either 🙂 I just picked "other" and filled in Prusa mini

Wups - It even says so in giant letters every time I log in! I've been jumping around a lot lately. My point was that lack of inclusion on a competitor site shouldn't affect buying criteria. Your point about merely wanting to indicate the proper printer for a thing is well taken. I just wanted to point out to anybody unaware that Prusa and [edit: Makerbot] are competitors so may not feel compelled to update quickly. Thingiverse has myriad problems in addition to this.

"Thingiverse has myriad problems in addition to this."

And the quality of CAD data is sometimes a disaster.
Unfortunately, mostly only STL data is available - difficult to edit.

Yea I really wish they did more to encourage sharing the source. I wouldn't go as far as forcing it as I think people should have the choice to choose how open-source they go, but something like a badge on the thumbnail if a recognized source format is supplied, along with a "Hey this thing doesn't have a source file added yet" notice when uploading files.

Ah gotcha. Yeah if a printer is in that drop-down means close to nothing. I was just unsure on how they ended up there, seeing that prusas older printers are there 🙂 I'm sure adding new printers aren't a high priority for makerbot, especially now that they've started sprinkling ads into the site, they  probably want to focus on things that make money I'm guessing.

I have to agree with the others. Even though I started by using thingiverse I found that the quality of prints in prusaprinters.org is better. Nevertheless you should their feedback form in support and ask again to include the Mini in the list.

More than three years later, and it's still not an option. Obnoxious.

Thingiverse is not a prusa site, there is no compulsion ultimaker's part, to include competitor's printers on their site.

Not sure why you replied just to repeat something that not only is commonly known (even the site's banner currently says "UltiMaker Thingiverse") but had already been discussed in this very thread. It doesn't matter who owns it. It's ridiculous for them to take actual years to make a single, two-second update to include an extremely popular model of printer no matter who makes it--even though the site has from the start been owned and operated by a single manufacturer, they already list about 200 competing brands, including literally a dozen models for Prusa alone. It's an obnoxious oversight, particularly when they try to brand themselves as the go-to repository.

RE:

Update!

Contrary to the assumptions of the person who sent me a bizarrely hostile, berating PM that they definitely knew I as a new user couldn't respond to, at the same time I posted here (so that other Mini/+ users in my same situation looking for info like I was would know the issue was still outstanding, as I thought was clear and obvious from context), I did in fact submit a comment to Thingiverse as well. Today, I received this reply:

One of the things that we've done is updated the list of Printer models to reflect the printers available in Cura, which tripled the amount of available printers. We must've missed including your printer because it's not available in Cura. I've added your request to the list of printers to be updated.

So it should finally be added soon, depending on how big the queue is and how quickly they're moving through it.

RE: Prusa mini not on thingieverse?

And it's up! Both the Mini and the Mini+ are now available as "Printer Model" options after selecting Prusa for "Printer Brand" when posting a make on Thingiverse.
